Very late to the party...but I really enjoy this album. Bravo Neil. Much of it is fun...and what isn't fun still exhibits a sprightliness that isn't in much of Colorado. That's not meant as a criticism of Colorado but it does make Barn a more vivid, engaging album. Colorado is more foggy and withdrawn. What's interesting about that is that Barn feels quick to me and Colorado feels very long, but Colorado is only seven minutes longer. It's all about perception, I suppose. This isn't the same as Poncho Horse - but there's no mistaking Ralph and Billy. Looking forward to the next album, already in the can.
A year removed, I really love this album. Listening now and it’s inviting, personal, intimate. Kudos to the old dudes in Crazy Horse. I don’t know how we could expect more. Grateful.
Agreed. At first I kinda felt the same as some of the critics on here (poor lyrics, needed a second take or more) but the album has continued to get under my skin and I love it.
Does anyone know why this LP currently retails for $13 when the average price for everything else is at least twice that?
I'd be a little surprised to hear it did much better or much worse than the average new Neil Young record, have to think it's fairly predictible at this point, but maybe they thought they had another Ragged Glory on their hands or something.
I just looked up Barn on Amazon US and the vinyl is $11.30, new. That's a great deal. My LP sounds great. Also - the remastered Rust Never Sleeps from 2016 is only $18.89. It sounds so much better than earlier masterings - its tremendous and this is a good deal for the vinyl.
Yeah for a new LP that is unheard of—I can't remember seeing something so cheap. Even unwanted RSD stock goes for much more.
Pricing is weird right now. I think Crosby’s latest LP was going for under $10. There are several Neil titles that are dirt cheap right now. Contrast that with the recent announcement of the Steely Dan UHQR catalog for $150 a pop. Interesting times. I picked up the Citizen Kane Jr blues bootleg for $14 the other day.
Amazon has crazy weird deals on Neil’s vinyl from time to time. A couple of months ago, they were practically giving away Return to Greendale on vinyl.
Gotta say - this a superb recording that sounds very good on LP. Already knew and enjoyed the album but this (absurdly cheap) vinyl copy is knocking me out. I feel like I’m in the Barn.
Watching the film on YT right now. I only bought the vinyl 2 years ago, no Blu ray. So why do I think I've seen this before ? Did it stream somewhere ?
