Ah, got it. I almost saw him in 76. The the stills-young show scheduled for San Francisco was converted to a NY solo show and I had 7th row seats. Then that show got cancelled, I think because he was getting a throat operation. By the time he came back thru the Bay Area, both with the Horse and for the Last Waltz, I was out of the country. Can’t wait to hear high fidelity versions of these songs.
Bear in mind that the turnaround between announcement and the NYA vinyl releases of Hawks & Doves, Reactor and This Note's For You was about three weeks.
Paradox had a quick turnaround as well. I was expecting November 20th as that’s when subscriptions go live
The "Judy" set should be very good if Roxy and Hitchhiker are any indication as to the sound we can expect from Joel's tapes which I've had for ages and have always enjoyed. These kinds of releases from Neil are all that have interested me for a long time now > 90% of his new stuff sine Greendale doesn't even capture my attention for a moment. I was only disappointed that the Fillmore set did not contain a complete show with "Cinnamon Girl" and Neil's opening acoustic set, so I turn to my bootlegs for those as well.
I assume by classics you mean like Mr. Soul, Cinnamon, Cowgirl, Cortez, Hurricane, and so on. I don't see any "new" classics > I well remember how people were saying that about "Change Your Mind" and "No Hidden Path" for example, both of which have essentially vanished along with many others. As of late with Neil I see very little quality lyrically and melodically. Have I given the more recent stuff a chance? Yes, I have but, it did nothing for me.
man, i'm a big neil young fan, but even I have to say that's stretching it. I think the dude has completely lost his ability to write a decent song, and it hurts to say that. he has no one pushing him creatively anymore. he's surrounded himself with "yes" people who praise any crap he puts out there. a bunch of young acolytes for a band. a worshiping new wife who helps form his hippy dippy outlook. I miss the neil of old, who was EDGY and took risks. just one fans' opinion.
I would say there are one or two great songs on most of the releases post greendale, and those could've probably been better with a bit of editing/revision. My notable tunes list: It's a Dream Falling off the Face of the Earth Prairie Wind After The Garden Living With War The Restless Consumer Flags of Freedom No Hidden Path Light A Candle Peaceful Valley Boulevard Ramada Inn This would make a really cool american stars and bars type record actually!
Looks like Songs For Judy is indeed the Bernstein Tapes. Cannot WAIT to hear these in full mastered quality. This might top Hitchhiker! Here is the full tracklist:
First single ( Campaigner) from the album is out on tidal and I guess Spotify now. The sound quality is crisp and clear
Oh yes I am sure. The leanght is 03.30. It dosnt sound as good as massy Hall 1971 but Goddamn it sounds much better then Bernstein bootleg.
official sleeve art (?), as per the tidal "campaigner" single. things are suddenly moving very fast in archivesville...
A bit surprised this hasn't shown up on the NYA timeline yet. Am I remembering correctly that one of the two "hidden" albums on the timeline when the NYA site originally opened was in 1976? If so, perhaps Songs for Judy is that album. I think that the other one was in 1973.
holy crap things are moving fast! this thread and the mccartney thread are a batman: the ride of emotion!
