some tracks are in mono, same as the bootleg, and some use the master tapes. the track list is also changed to be in chronological order.
Then I'm glad it's not, because then it would not have been released yet, if ever. It was released 19 months ago, been enjoying it for 19 months.
Changed it back so I could continue to use the old cd artwork, just reminds me of those old times when every Neil fragment on a boot was awe inspiring.
Its a real thrill to finally be hearing these unreleased Neil songs. "Vacancy" sounds great. Dark lyrics.
To me, it sounds like a hybrid of Revolution Blues and World on a String. I could swear Levon was on the drums on that one, based on what the drummer plays on the chorus, but it's actually Karl Himmel. One of my favorite NY songs already!
Just heard "Vacancy". I think it will make a nice counterpoint to the acoustic/mellow songs on the album. Love the "Ditch" vibe it has. And Ben Keith's harmonies. EDIT: Just waiting for the naysayers to complain that it's the worst Neil Young song ever.
To me, "Vacancy" has a distinct CSNY vibe to it. In my head, I was filling in Croz's background harmonies. And then of course, Neil and Steve would've had a field day with all those overlapping guitar lines. A really strong song, overall.
A really strong track. The bands sounds tight and awesone as heck. Crazy to believe I'm hearing this track in all it's glory.
Really enjoying Vacancy. Didn’t expect a track in this style to be on the album. I can also imagine CSNY all over this. Shame it was never played in 74
To me this sounds like Neil taking the basic riff of "World on a String" and adding some Stray Gators Southern twang to it. In fact, this is probably the closest we'll get to hearing him doing anything in the vein of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
With release scheduled for 31 July we should get a Return To Greendale announcement in the next week or so. Keep to that schedule Neil 21 August-Archives Volume 2 16 October-Rust Bucket 27 November-Young Shakespeare
VACANCY. WOW. TOP SHELF TUNE. sounds like the ending is slightly cut too? it just abruptly drops before the next song.
"Vacancy" is a revelation...Holy hell, this is vintage Neil in so many ways. Love it! That said, I think this is the last preview track that I will be listening to. I want to make sure there are still surprises when I hear the album in full....recreate that joy of discovering a classic album for the first time.
Considering the timing of this preview, and the fact we heard Rust Bucket just two days before in NYA, we could probably expect the album to be released exactly one week from now, 17/6, in the Archives
Less CSNY and more "Last Dance" - could easily see him playing something like this in the final few dates of the Time Fades Away, with Crosby & Nash on the backing vocals. Just imagine that!
