whether the title is relevant or not, isn't The Times just an EP culled from the Fireside Sessions? i hate to be such a killjoy but outside of a song here and there, i haven't loved a Young album in a couple decades...
I think that is a great argument for getting a lot of titles out.Although a lot of casual fans have dropped off the ones left would probably buy most if not all of the Archives releases. For a point of comparison I saw a survey about the Springsteen monthly archival releases and well over half the people had bought everything released. At that stage they were over 50 archival releases in.That staggered me and made me feel a bit better as I thought I might be nearly the only one doing that. Neil’s core audience would be just as committed if a bit smaller. Free The Archives.
That something else..... will be..... : Homefires II. 10 new acoustic songs from Neil himself, recorded in a similar matter to the Fireside Sessions. A "continuation" from Earth, Neil and his guitar/harmonica, with microphones set up at his home to also catch the added ambiance of the surrounding environment as well: clucking chickens, falling snow or rain, fireplace burning, boiling pot cooking that stew... That doesn't convince you? NYA Subscribers who buy Homefires II, will exclusively also get "Homefires I" as well from 1974. Or maybe not, let's see!....
there's a quick note from neil. volume 2 info is coming soon, and it seems the "big news" will be information about how NYA sells product directly to users. i'm guessing the previously mentioned bootleg releases will be digital only with a limited physical release only on NYA.
I wonder if the Time EP is a test run for sell exclusive physical releases? Makes sense rather than diving in with a major release
Details in addition to what we already know? Audio from the Porch Episode mastered by Niko Bolas (like he did for the Lookin' For a Leader single), release date Sept. 18.
Digital only would definitely not be a good move for Neil Young.2 examples from Live Bootleg programs.Pearl Jam went download only at one stage cutting out the CD option. They thought that the CD buyers would move over to download. They didn’t.Nearly all of those people were lost as customers. After 1 tour they brought back the CD option. Also Nugs have said a big number of their Springsteen sales are cds. They actually bought a pressing plant to meet demand. Neil’s audience would be similar in preferences.I think the cutting of ties with the evil empire at Facebook was the “big news”. Based on past performance direct purchase from Neil Young’s store would mean just about no one would get a copy of Looking For A Leader 2020 before the election.People are still waiting for Homegrown according to a recent letter in the NYA Times.
Return To Greendale on same day as VOL2 is interesting and won't get much airplay in this household over v2. Big year for NYA. Best save up the bucks.
Sorry, I didn't mean that in an overly-negative way. It's just that he isn't going to release two completely different albums/sets on the same day.
Neil in NYA on Tuesday: "Return to Greendale on Nov. 6, and NYA Volume 2 on that same day - Nov. 6 as well." Guess we'll see.
