Same problem here. Checked after reading your post. Wasn't planning to use it until Archives 3 came out. Would be interested in the reply you get, if I need to request a new code.
in canadian dollars. i'll upgrade, most likely, but i want to know if my discount will be preserved as a day 1 subscriber.
It’ll depend on exactly what’s in the package. I’m good with what’s there right now as it’s offered. As long as I can stream official releases after they’re out, I’m fine.
There's still some consistency, though. The discs are well mastered. The change is the engineers, themselves, and different approaches. I'm perfectly happy with the ORS boxes. I was late to the party, in buying them. I got them all between summer and fall 2019, and still for well under three figure prices. One of them I got with the help of a forum member, here (thank you @eelkiller ). The thing I do NOT like is how those boxes were a bit too limited, making it difficult for folks to get. The ORS 5-8 and ORS 8.5 - 12 boxes go for stupid money, nowadays.
Glad to help, before the recent lockdown our chain store still had one copy of each, they are still in some warehouses I guess.
I didn't see the prices ORS 5-8 and 8.5 - 12 went for initially, but I got both of them for about $150 total in 2019. 1-4 was about $20. That's 13 discs at roughly $170+...average $11.50 each disc...not too shabby. ORS 5-8 and 8.5 - 12 go for roughly $150 + each...uhh, NO! Avoid anything from Croatia, Russian Federation or China.
Getting back on track, I'm looking forward to: Performance Series volumes 8 (Boarding House?) and 10 (Crazy Horse Garage?) and the Bootleg Series Royce hall 1971 and Ducks 1977.
So the second two sets each cost 3-4 times as much as the 1st (which IIRC was broadly similar in the UK).
Pretty much, yes. And I can see why. Those discs were remastered and issued separately in 2009, which I did not get then. Getting the ORS 1-4 box was cheaper than getting all 4 discs separately.
Frustrating thing is that ORS 1-4 were being sold separately and that they are still in print. Why make the rest so limited? I held off buying 5-12 cause I thought they were a bit expensive, especially compared to 1-4. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
$50ish a year would be worth it to me for on-demand videos alone. Appreciate the charm of a theatre schedule but hate missing videos when I don’t have time that particular day to enjoy.
Original subscribers are guaranteed the original $19.99 price for the classic tier (which is not increasing, so there's currently no discount). They will pay the going rate if they upgrade, Neil sez:
So what is the definition of an early subscriber? Anyway, even for 60 dollars should be worth it. I'll as least give it a try.
Those who signed up when the paid Archives first went live in late 2018 - the cutoff date was Dec. 19, according to an NYA letter response.
On new LTE there's a very articulated letter from MB, Italy, which asks the reason for the which the selected tracks aren't all on the Archives. Neil tries to address the question mentioning problems of space on discs and promising some releases as outtakes on NYA. In my opinion this explanation isn't convincing because some discs are duplicated and already released and others are actually 45 mins long.
What do you guys think the chances are of getting the Cinnamon Girl version with Danny on lead available to purchase?
The real reason for these online-only outtakes and the lack of download/purchase availability is of course business. 'They' want to offer some exclusive content on NYA so that physical buyers still need the subscription.
Neil Young Archives No word of Greendale yet, but good news. I find it a bit strange that there will be no Blu-Ray for Young Shakespeare, as that is all analog recording, so should be a 24/192 for that? In any case, I'll take 24/96 as well. I'll probably hold off on ordering elsewhere and make a combined order for Rust Bucket, RTG, Young Shakespeare to get free shipping (and high res downloads). By the way, no 'room' on physical releases? That's a fallacy, probably left off for creative reasons, but Neil has always been a bit 'vague' on this matter.
...I am confused by the poster of the Q in the LTE who says that there is a studio outtake of New Mama (over and above the version released on TTN)...? And totally bamboozled by Neil claiming that "currently 30 or 40 outtakes have been added" to NYA... I've found about 4 studio tracks, and a couple of live tracks!! - "Fill me in Neil" (or anyone here) - what / where are these outtakes? And I'm not convinced by Neil's explanation either... I really struggle to understand why the Zuma / Dume sessions (versions) of White Line & Sedan Delivery are missing from the Dume disc of Archives vol.2 - there is no artistic reason for these being left of - frankly, they're brilliant! Thanks to the Chrome Dreams bootleg they aren't missing from my version!! P.S. And they must, must have a studio version of Country Home from these sessions... I mean - it was the only Crazy Horse song of all these outtakes (Lama, Pocahontas, Sedan, White Line, Powderfinger, etc...) that was played live on the subsequent tour(s). Neil obviously thought really highly of it, I don't believe that they didn't try to "nail it" in the studio...
New Mama and Last Dance were recorded in studio during the TFA rehearsals (Archives Book). Recording notes on the Book are very precise. Probably archivists and the engineers couldn't find a studio recording of Country Home.
It would certainly be a good thing if there was actually a list somewhere of the outtakes available on NYA.
