Sounds like the Brady Bunch also did this. Is there anyone else who starred in a show and sang her own theme song? Should any other actor or actors have sung their own theme song? Obviously, Alan Thicke has musical talent and could have attempted some kind of vocal take for the Growing Pains "Show Me That Smile". Joanna Kerns, though, it might not have been clear that she had the vocal chops to pull off prime time vocal work. Your thoughts, please.

Linda Lavin (from my hometown of Portland, Maine) sang the theme song for "Alice."

Linda Lavin recorded that theme song probably five or six times. And every new version was somehow worse than the last. She used to do the closing theme, too. One season, for the closing theme, she just kind of moaned and groaned to the whole tune. They used it just once and then went to an instrumental. She also sang the theme for her 90s sitcom, “Room for Two”.

Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton sang the “All in the Family” theme.

Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor sang the theme for “Green Acres”.

Grant Goodeve sang the (2nd) theme for “Eight is Enough”.

Cybill Shepherd sang the theme for her 90s sitcom.

Bette Midler sang the theme for her sitcom.

David Cassidy sang the theme for “The Partridge Family” as well as his short-lived “Man Undercover” series in the late 70s.

Shirley Jones sang the theme for her short-lived “Shirley” in the late 70s.

A lot of Disney Channel shows had their stars sing the theme in the mid-'00s. Couldn't tell you if that's still a thing. Also Drake Bell on Drake & Josh.

  9. All of Seth Macfarlane's cartoons have theme songs sung by the main character(s).

No, that’s actually a good one, by her standards. The really bad closing theme is on the first episode of the third season, “Take Him, He’s Yours”.

There was a season when Oprah sang her own theme song. I remember Whitney Houston was a guest and she started to sing it.

"I think I'm gonna run on..."

The audience started to laugh. I don't think Oprah was impressed.

Had to go listen to all the versions on youtube and was stunned that that show ran for 9 seasons. I think maybe the first two or three were funny but after that I lost interest (I was only 7 when the show started). But that little bit of scat singing she does at the end of the first episode theme has always stuck in my head. Weird.

The Monkees (well, Micky Dolenz anyway) did the theme song to their television series.

Wesley Eure (sp?) sang the opening and closing themes to "Land of the Lost".

I have a vivid memory of being in elementary school and a girl in the hallway during lunch time walking away from someone saying, "Kiss my grits."

Eat my grits... sounds like a combo of kiss my grits and eat my shorts. Those two are harmless enough. Eat my grits sounds NSFW and not safe for anywhere!
