"Now comes word of another new album by the classic John Coltrane Quartet, with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. Blue World will be released on Impulse!/UMe on Sept. 27, and like Both Directions it offers an unexpected view on a pivotal period in the band's evolution. It was recorded at Van Gelder Studios on June 24, 1964 — a few weeks after the quartet put a finishing touch on the album Crescent — as the soundtrack to a Canadian art film. Because the date had gone unnoted in session recording logs, this music has occupied a blind spot for Trane-ologists, archivists and historians."

Cool. Wonder if it is from another one of Coltrane's mono reference reels.

I saw the excerpt below from an article on UDiscover Music. Assuming from the wording here that the LP will be mastered digitally from the original tape. Thoughts? After hearing what Blue Note has been doing with the analog reissues, I am hoping that more will do the same.

"Kevin Reeves at Universal Music Mastering in New York has now mastered Blue World from the original analog tape. The lacquers for the new release were cut at Capitol Studios by Ron McMaster"

Yes. Hard to believe that the Coltrane and Monk Live At Carnegie Hall album and the Both Directions tape sat on the shelf for decades as well.

Seeing Vinyl and CD on pre-order from distributors as well. So looks like it's coming. It's weird they would make the announcement and not have it available through his official site already though. Seems like a missed opportunity given the excitement these announcements tend to drum up.

The slides in the OP's video obviously show parts of the re-found tape and related box.
Recording sheet says it's monophonic and the following tracks are on the tape:
    - Village Blues
    - Naima
    - Blue World
    - Like Sonny

This looks like a lost session, not a lost album. Nice, anyway.

Both Directions At Once also was from one session...
Although, many Jazz albums were created on single sessions. So I think this'll do fine as being an album.

This sounds like a fascinating recording. Revisiting the earlier tunes. Recorded 4 weeks after McCoy and Elvin were at Van Gelder's laying down Matador with Grant Green - and Bessies Blues and Crescent for the Crescent album.

Yes, Both Directions... is not a lost "album" for me. It's great, anyway. In the case of this upcoming release, it consists, except for the title track (which could be a working title for a piece that Trane would record later), of tunes that had been recorded before. Of course, anything unreleased by the classic quartet is more than welcomed.
