Hmm... German Amazon says the CD comes out on September 20th, a week earlier than originally announced.

Agree that this isn’t really a lost album, but, hey, at this point, you take what you can get with regard to crumbs from the master’s table.

Very nice! I’ll definitely be picking it up as I like this particular period from Coltrane.

I read the master tape was in the hands of the National Film Board of Canada, then provided to the Coltrane estate/Impulse.

Lost John Coltrane soundtrack for 1964 Quebec NFB film to be released

New Coltrane ? Sounds essential on that basis. I look forward to hearing it.
I was just revisiting the Miles / Trane bootleg series release from a few years back and wondering if anything else was lurking in places unknown. I'm not sure it''s possible to have too much John Coltrane in your collection.

    Can’t wait.

Village Blues is one of may fave Coltrane tracks.

    Then again, so is Naima.

Hope they do the vinyl version justice.

I held off on BDAO and eventually picked up 1963: New Directions. Previously all that I owned from the year on CD was on the complete studio quartet on Impulse box. Sure, that gave me a lot, but not the Hartman, the live Birdland tracks, or the Newport tracks. It filled many holes for me. I still have not bought the complete Love Supreme masters, so a 1964 set might be something I would buy. Playing disc 3 of the aforementioned Impulse box now.

That was basically my own experience (except I had the Hartman and maybe nothing else from 63). I thought 1963: New Directions was a great and coherent comp that filled in some missing bits for me. I was delighted to discover it when I was shopping later in the year for BDAO. Since I felt similarly about the 1958 Prestige Comp, also from last year, I was getting dreams of a series of year-by-year sets for Coltrane. I have no idea whether Impulse would try to pull the same maneuver again this year. I would think they'd worry about splitting the market with two releases of overlapping material and worry further that they were complicating any future endeavors in trying to release a single album, when Coltrane fans were getting accustomed to more lavish packages coming later in the year. We shall see...

This is really exciting for me! One of my favorites and vinyl is being ordered today, and coming out the same day as the 3-LP vinyl set of Abbey Road. What an awesome weekend of fantastic sounds this will be. Can't wait for "Blue World"! "jfire" said it best, Holy **** indeed!

If you pull up the Acoustic Sounds listing for this, it gives a nice detailed description. Sounds like a good one!

I'll try to get both CD and vinyl. Think I'll also buy the 1-LP edition of Both Directions At Once then, too.

I was just re-reading the liner notes in the booklet of Both Directions...
So I believe, while Both Directions and Blue World are each from one session, maybe we'll get even more afterwards?
Maybe there exist more reference tapes and we might get a couple more albums in the coming years?

Hmmm. I don’t know who Kevin Reeves is and doesn’t Ron McMaster cut digitally?
