Beginning to believe something might be in the works but we've been here before. It's the hope that kills.
Over on the expectingrain forum user halfasleep says that Charlie Sexton has confirmed they are currently recording new material.
I'll believe there's a new Dylan CD, of new recordings, when I see it officially announced. And I am not getting my hopes up. Not that it will come out, or that it will be necessarily a good album if it does. I believe Triplicate was a perfect final album if he decides to never release any more. Bob's given us more than enough; he could have stopped long ago and his legacy as the greatest songwriter ever (in my opinion he is) would not have diminished.
On the Expecting Rain website there is a photo of Charlie Sexton’s guitar from his Instagram site (Sextonplace) showing Bob on the piano in its reflection (maybe). The NEXT album of Dylan originals! - Page 23 - Expecting Rain
I’d have to say that after seeing this last tour makes me believe this man might be reinvigorated. And in fine voice. If a new album is coming I’m thinking it’s going to be pretty damn good.

That good Dylan gave a lot, it's true Stop writing new things ... it would be understandable. But hopefully he'llwrite more. In my opinion ... He is still one of the best
Definitely. After seeing him the past two tours this would be a perfect time to record and release a new album.
From Expecting Rain: "i spoke to charlie for a moment after the terry allen show in los angeles this weekend and he confirmed that the band is currently recording new material with bob." "i caught him while he was talking to rocco deluca, who currently plays in a band with daniel lanois. they were both talking about their 'bosses' and their current projects." Hopefully Charlie's not in trouble for a bit of conversation overheard and posted online. I'm a believer. Album this year!
Take this as you will. I can not and will not reveal my source but it's from the very highest authority. At the present time Bob is not in the studio and as far as the recording element (who knows about what's in the writing stage and I'm not talking about what new material might have been recorded and on shelf) and there are no set plans for Bob to enter the studio for the purposes of a new album. This I know. I'm not definitively commenting on if an album with past recorded new material is in the works because it wasn't specifically discussed; but it was implied nothing new is on the horizon. Of course Bob being Bob all that could change on a dime for just about any reason. But again; as far a Bob being in the studio to record new material at this time... it is just a rumor. If anyone is put off on my posting this without divulging where the information came from I do understand and apologize. I did agonize a bit whether or not to post this and I chose not to (because I couldn't/wouldn't reveal the source of my information) at an earlier time in the life of the thread; but seeing the revitalization of the thread I thought I'd go ahead with it making sure I detailed my knowledge in light of what would understandably be skepticism. Again; I must apologize to anyone put off by my post and particularly to the source if by chance they happen upon it here... or if anyone with a direct channel to the source sees it and passes it along. The information was revealed with the understanding it would not go further and I must confess to being a bit apprehensive of my post being the source of a trust unkept; but I thought those interested deserved to hear this and place their own value upon it... for what it's worth.
I think Tony Garnier is in Germany at the moment, so I didn't think they were still recording. I still have hope that the news about recording last week from a fan in LA directly from Charlie Sexton was true. I appreciate you sharing what you can with us!
Very disappointing if true. That said, just feel the body of circumstantial evidence (and an alleged direct acknowledgement from a band member) is too big for there not to have been some sort of studio activity. Real pity it doesn't seem to be in respect of original songs. One possible silver lining if the Japan tour is cancelled (I'd be amazed if it wasn't) is a larger potential window to record emerges
