I listen nearfield As standard practice to both the s400’s and my Apogees. Anywhere between 5-6 feet..sometimes 4 ft

Z is a little over the top for me. Actually the best review of the s400’s I’ve found recently is this. Shawn’s findings pretty much mirror my own:
The Buchardt S400 Review! Big, Badass Sound!
Shawn has worked in the Audio industry and has a lot of experience. He’s not some internet dude.

Yeah the guy on 0 Fidelity's pretty good he's raving about those speakers there's really no bad reviews on them I think they're pretty Kick-Ass speakers.

One thing to note is the S300 is much larger than the S400. Deeper

From reviews I'm gathering the s-300 has a lot deeper Bass. It's a tough choice for me I'm going to pull the trigger on the 300 or the 400 I'm just not sure which one.

In my opinion the s400 is the way to go. The price difference is not that much. Not sure about the much deeper bass part.
I think Shawn at Zero Fidelity did a side by side comparison of the two speakers. Look for it on his YouTube channel

I enjoy Z's reviews, he's like a dorkier Jack Black. He definitely knows headphones and headphone amps, but I take his stereo equipment reviews with a large grain of salt. I mean he's reviewing $2k speakers on top of other speakers lol, not to mention what he's running them with...

I said the reviewer prefers it upside down as in reviewer prefers it with tweeter on top, hence the speaker really IS upside down.

Quite a lot of folks here don't seem fond of Z. I only posted good review because it is fresh off the press. Thomas and Stereo / zero fidelity did their reviews much earlier on.

While I'm not a big fan of Z's style, I appreciate it that he comes out to say what he doesn't like and that he states how he thinks speakers compare against each other.

Saw some reviewer recently saying he didn't release a buchardt review last time because he didn't like the sound. That, I cannot stand by. I hate it when reviewers only ever say good things and hide what they're not fans of.

I enjoy zero fidelity and Thomas reviews as well.

Ok, I'm stupid and can't edit my post (not sure why). Meant to say "I only posted HIS review because it is fresh off the press."

My speakers weigh 185lb each and I'm tired of moving them.
Pretty sure 2019 is the year of smaller/lighter speakers for me.

Fun thread of a fun speaker.
Would enjoy some more owner reviews.

    BTW: How were they shipped?
    Did you pay import duties?

Why do you keep moving them ? My floorstanders haven't moved from where they're at since 2009.

another review up. opinion seems a little different from most of the other reviewers. Thomas talks about the good bass even though the rest have said bass is more of a S300 thing.

You should change the thread title. It implies defective speakers.

Nice review... I learned a couple of things from it, he categorizes what he hears in a meaningful and systematic way.

Thomas is a very thoughtful and thorough reviewer. He listens to systems over $100k (including his own) and gets impressions from multiple friends under different listening environments. Good review.
My S400’s continue to open up. I’ve flipped from my 200wpc amp to a Line Magnetic 34wpc and they sound glorious.

They are selling very well. Two of the models are “sold out”. I believe they received a shipment of the black color model this month and they are all gone.

    Peace,
    Tony
