I picked up the record last week from Virgin for $18.99. I noticed a lot of copies in the bin had some creasing on the covers (perhaps partially due to the tight shrink, etc.). I found a copy that looked clean and brought it. When I took the shrink-wrap off and removed the 30th Anniversary sheet off the cover, low & behold, several large creases in the center of the triangle. Grumble, grumble. How the heck can one tell if they're buying a "crease-free" album?? I can't imagine myself going back to Virgin and saying "Hi, I want to exchange this creased copy for a clean one. Do you mind if I rip open several copies until I find a clean one?". I'm probably nuts enough to do that...

Pain, isn't it? I rarely have this problem with Trumpet. Life isn't perfect, butk most of the vinyl I get from them (and about 3 other people) I've never had a creased LP.

That copy of DSOTM has possibly traveled 2-3 times in boxes before you've had it. :(

Yeah, I also bet the employee stacking the vinyl in the bin wasn't too careful as well. I was just suprised at the "concealed" damage. I'm kind of saving some money right now and being very choosie with what I purchase. This album wasn't on the top of my list (I have the SACD and other vinyl pressings) so I brought it on a whim when I saw the cheaper price. I know it's only (my as my wife would call it) "anal tendencies" but when I buy something brand-spanking-new (which in some cases is rare) I expect it to be without these silly flaws. Anyway, I may take it back and ask for a new one...

I've rejected buying USED albums because of the shape of the cover. I wouldn't be any less vilgilant with a new LP. If you were dissatisfied, return the sucker for an exchange. I have yet to buy the vinyl DSTM, but will be on the lookout for this problem.

    I think Sckott is right.
Then again, you got it cheaper than RT.

FWIW, I PAY the Trumpet price on vinyl for two reasons:

    1. They know what the heck they're doing (packing LPs correctly).
    2. Tight outfit, and they have bonifide UPS tracking.
    3. (Bonus Reason) They're closer to me. I get stuff in 2 days. :D

It beats sitting and waiting at a counter to do this: [IMG]

Could not agree more, I do a lot of business with RT and have never had problem and they sometimes get it to me in a day! I was in NYC last week, stopped at Virgin, bought two LP's (both fine) but found the samething, many albums were already creased in the sealed wrap.

  12. Well, I guess I have to disqualify myself from the board, because I cancelled my Tower order and intentionally ordered one with bent corners from Red Trumpet for a discount!:bigeek:

That and it was actually in stock.

Hey, as long as it plays right, I don't care! The cover won't stay perfect forever...

just me shooting my mouth off again

I love Red Trumpet and their service. I only picked this one up at Virgin for the price and also on a "heck, why not?". I think I will take it back and ask for a new one and also open it in the store to verify it's kosher. I think EMI did an overall fine job with this album yet the gatefold is rather on the thin and prone to creasing side. Perhapes if it was laminated or heavier stock material? Anyway, despite the creases it's a fine release...

    P.S. Tight shrink-wrap is not a vinlyl lover's friend...

P.S.S. Ya, "anal tendencies" is part of the coat of arms of being an audiophile...

I'm with Sckott here. If "Bo knows Bo" then, for sure, Red Trumpet know how to package lps. I've only seen one person approach RT that way and he runs a one man show.

I would probably love red trumpet too(with a name like that:) ) but it takes so long to get things from theEast coast to the West coast. There are a couple of good dealers out here. One's on 90 miles away. 2day delivery!

Hey, at least the interior of the LP wasn't cracked (said the cranky SACD buyer :)).

    Has anyone encountered this problem?

I picked up a copy myself at Virgin today on Long Island and this one had two of the same posters in it (band photo).

I think I got gipped out of the 30th anniversary poster. What the heck does it even look like?

Storm is selling the prints seperate to the LP, but they're different.

The new Storm poster is a concept, taking triangle-shaped objects to make every little window in the poster look like it's emulating the prism.

    Very classy...
