Wow, I hope that this is correct! If this is anywhere near as good as The Next Day, then I will be extremely pleased.

Hopefully he pushes ahead artistically, with this album being an advancement of 'The Next Day'; he has always evolved musically, and I am excited to hear what he comes up with.

I'd like to hear him try working with a different producer this time. Visconti was the man back in the 70s, but I haven't been as thrilled with his work on the more recent albums--too "in your face" and compressed.

The album is mentioned in The Times ( UK) The article claims a "Bowie insider" described it as "completely bonkers" and says the album is 7 songs/45 minutes & the music is " long jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Can and Kraftwerk"
The single is " 10 minutes long and contains Gregorian chants, a soul section, various electronic beats and bleeps..,There is no radio edit either;it's all or nothing."

Based on the article, it sounds like the song was recorded independently of the show...

The series' directer Johan Renck, who recruited Bowie to record the theme music, detailed the conversations that resulted in "Blackstar." "I showed Mr. Bowie the two first episodes in the rough state they were at the time, and he liked what he saw very much," Renck said in a statement. "We discussed the various aspects of the show; naturally the plot line, but also the underlying currents of guilt and personality flaws. We talked about the dark heart of Europe. We talked about the biblical aspects of human nature. He asked if there was anything else to see, so I showed him the first concept board I had just made for the title sequence - images from the show laced with chimaeras and demons from the worlds of Bosch and Grunewald. That's when he said go - it all fits. Then he played me his new song 'Blackstar.'"

Given that he stopped touring for health reasons, I'm more than satisfied that he's releasing new material.

8 January is his birthday, incidentally. He'll be 69. It was on his 66th birthday in 2013 that he announced The Next Day and released Where Are We Now?

Here's hoping for a tour later in the year, perhaps to coincide with a Golden Years box set. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Can't wait. I've always wanted Bowie to work with Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

That description sounds like Sue (or In a Season of Crime.) Not one for the pop crowd, but I'm in.

I can't wait! I loved "Sue" and that snippet of "Blackstar" sounded fantastic. I love that he's taking even more cues from Scott Walker at this point.

What does it mean "On the album cover he's looking blonde and youthful"?

That was what I thought of too. I just listened to Sue, Tis A Pity She's A Whore several times last night and I was thinking his newest works sounded like a cross between Suburbia and Outside.
I was wishing he was working on 2.Outside. Guess this will have to do. Sounds like it is all instrumental though?

I think David is on every single one of his covers except the original Suburbia. So the new one is probably an older photo of him or he has a lot of make up.
Has to be better than his last cheap and beyond lazy album cover.
