    I still want to know where the master tapes for the 1969 PBS Critique Special are. I know PBS says they no longer have them but can you imagine those turning up and being released on Blu-Ray. I wonder if someone out there is in possession of these. Some really good information at the link below. Apparently they are still looking for the masters.

    Things do turn up, but I suspect the masters are long gone. Still, the transfer on the Soundstage DVD from the early 2000's was atrocious.

    Yeah I totally agree as my old VHS underground grey market copy is much clearer so apparently someone has or had a great copy at one time.

    I was gonna say the same thing. My old VHS copy was miles better in both picture and sound quality. That Soundstage DVD was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe it looked worse than the VHS!

    "The Soft Parade" VHS contained a cleaner PBS set as well.

    It's out there (at least one session?) and it sounds magnificent. As good as the music-less sections on American Prayer.

    Yeah, I think the 1969 reel is out there. Morrison's "poetry" is hit and miss, but from a historical perspective, it would neat to be able to hear the complete reels in good sound, along with reproductions of some of his notebooks and "HWY" thrown in for good measure.

    The dominant broadcast videotape format in 1969 was 2" quad tape. Perhaps it survived. But the tape could have been wiped and reused.

    The broadcast program was edited. So there could be an even earlier generation tape of raw takes and perhaps songs that were cut out and didn't make the final edit.

    Has anyone tried reaching out to Richard Goldstein about the PBS tape?

    His web site: ==> About

    Also - what about reaching out to WNET former staff? Maybe the technicians involved are on Facebook? Are they listed in the Critique credits?

    I hate record store day. Love the doors releasing good stuff but just hate how people screw people who can’t get to a store for whatever reason.

    The Doors online store usually have the Record Store Day item available the next day, if you act fast and pay shipping.
