'My Own Love Song' Soundtrack Features 16 New Bob Dylan Songs

We recently brought you the trailer and a couple of clips from Olivier Dahan's English language feature debut "My Own Love Song." The film, starring Oscar winners Renée Zellweger and Forest Whitaker is another music based tale by the "La vie en rose" director and tells the familiar story of a washed out singer on the path to redemption. So what makes this one different?

Well, it's a female centered story -- think of it as "Crazy Heart" with a girl -- and it's also been soundtracked by none other than the legendary Bob Dylan. Dylan put together so much material for the film that a chunk of it ended up forming the bulk of his 2009 album "Together Through Life" (which earned him a Grammy Award). Well, there's no shortage of material left from those sessions as songs from the album along with sixteen previously unreleased cuts will all make their way into "My Own Love Song." Consequence Of Sound have tracked down the complete soundtrack details which you can read below; we're sure Dylan fans are positively freaking out.

There's no details yet on what the officially sanctioned soundtrack release will contain, but we think it's a good bet that most, if not all, the unreleased Dylan tunes get pressed. We're also wagering Zellweger and Whitaker's tunes make the cut on an official release as well.

"My Own Love Song" opens in France on April 7th and will make its international premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in late April.

A lot of these titles sound like "incidental music", but I guess that will remain to be seen. It's also interesting that there was one title mentioned in an interview Bob did circa the album's release which remained unreleased. And that title isn't here...

The interviewer asked: "In that song CHICAGO AFTER DARK, were you thinking about the new President?"
Dylan: "Not really. It’s more about State Street and the wind off Lake Michigan and how sometimes we know people and we are no longer what we used to be to them. I was trying to go with some old time feeling that I had."

I'd sort of expect that song to be listed above...

This sounds great! I'm not so sure about the Renee Z songs. When will this be released?

That is a shame. Just checked expectingrain.com and it turns out the songs on the soundtrack by Dylan are instrumentals. Ah well.

Just keep in mind, while the quality of Bobs lyrics are peerless, his melodies/instumentals
are near or at the top as well.

Gotta say I'm not the least surprised. With titles like "Back Alley", "Click Clack", "Janet's Step", etc., it sounded like incidental "score" music to me...

Bob Dylan soundtrack for 'My Own Love Song' not on Sony's schedule

The new movie My Own Love Song features music by Bob Dylan, including 16 previously unheard titles. However, it does not seem like there will be a soundtrack available for purchase.

According to two Sony/BMG employees I have been in contact with, there has been "no word" of a soundtrack. The movie premiered on April 7 in France, and will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22, so it seems doubtful that a release is currently planned. There is also no listing for the soundtrack on Amazon.com. Of course, things can change. It is unclear if the decision not to release a soundtrack was Sony's or Dylan's.
