Thanks! That was my guess but I figured someone here would know for sure. After years of finding it awful, his vocal has finally started to click with me!

At least that's what I believe, but I could be wrong (and would be shocked if I am).

@Clarkophile tells me it is in fact Gene - which is disappointing to say the least. My guess is that this is his "vaudevillian" music he was talking about in interviews back in '66! Good grief! :sigh:

The music hall style was very popular in the late 60s...I'm not sure who to blame but it was all over the place. It hasn't aged well and a little goes a long way!

Maybe Gene was channelling his inner Maria Maldaur

Hey, not true! I never said I was 100% sure! I said I always thought/assumed it was Gene, that’s all.

I love Gene, but does anyone else feel I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better sounds like Needles and Pins or just reminds you of such?

Ha ha. My initial thought was that it was Dillard but the more I pondered the more I thought it was Gene putting on an affectation.

I went based on memory because I didn’t really want to listen to the song again

One of the few Gene associated songs that is an automatic skip for me.

Gene acknowledged the influence, and even covered Needles & Pins (on a demo) later on in the 80s.

Lol, I think both of these observations are pretty much universal.

Cue the one person who likes it...was it you, @Maggie ? I forget.

I dashed off a hastily written email to David Jackson. I’ve never been in touch with him before (@indigo_m has), so unsure if he’ll respond.

I can’t believe how much time we are spending on Corner Street Bar.
    Kind of enjoying this.
Maybe this should be a poll question...(jk)

I have! It's a labor if love and an on-going project. There's also a monthly newsletter, podcast, Twitter and Instagram sites, a neglected Tumblr page and the Gene Clark petition for the Songwriters Hall of fame campaign as well! Whew!! :sweating:

Oh man, thanks Tom! I hope he responds.

I honestly thought it was a dumb question and everyone but me knew the answer so I'm kind of enjoying the debate myself! I never considered that it might be Gene himself but now that I listen again, I could picture it. But if I had to place a bet, I'd go with Doug.

I am pretty sure all the people who would vote in a poll on this have already weighed in on the thread hahaha

That's a wonderful website and a nice addition to what already exists. It's pretty thorough and clear to navigate, well done.
I was wondering if there could be a clear timeline of all solo recordings in a page somewhere at some point? Between the official releases, the shelved releases, the compilations, the remastered and the new archival releases it can be quite confusing as to know exactly when were all the songs recorded, released (if so) and featured on what media (or not). Some exhaustive discography in terms of recording dates on one page would be appreciated by me (and many others I'm sure). Thank you so much for the labor of love behind the website.

Thank you for your input! I would love to do something like that down the road, the trouble is the website is mostly a one woman show (me!) and something like that would take a bit of time to put together. As it is I'm running late with this month's newsletter! It will happen though. Someday...
