When I first heard about it, I thought it was gonna be a sort-of 'fictionalized' Walter Yetnikoff...
Now, seeing the commercials for it.... I don't think it's gonna be that good.
It's looks like it's gonna 'invent' lots of 'fake bands' to go with their fake record label!
    Boo...

me too, i can't understand why it was so bad, he is a far better writer than what was done on this debacle. it seemed like everything that was written was done so that someone could drop the name of a famous band.

I dislike the title. Reminds me of how trendy it all is.

The 'pedigree' involved in Vinyl is certainly stellar; Scorcese, Jagger, and creators from Boardwalk Empire (many who were alumni from The Sopranos!). Looking forward to it!

Will definitely check out this show. I'm hoping for the best, but... expecting the worst, actually.

Ray Ramano was on "The Tonight Show" promoting the series....and I already spotted a Nakamichi tape deck in the background.

Btw, anyone saw the photo of Jimmy Fallon's picture disc of Barry Manilow "Greatest Hits" on his McIntosh turntable??

I was lucky enough to be able to screen the first 5 episodes. It's by no means perfect but I think a lot of people on this forum will get a kick out of it. Fun blend of fact and fiction from the era (1973, with flashbacks to the '60s). The first episode—which Scorsese directed—is definitely the rockiest. It finds its groove after that.

Why is Vinyl a terrible and trendy title? How can a term be considered trendy if it's been in widespread constant use since AT LEAST the early 80s. It was of course used well before that even, but it's usage skyrocketed after that to differentiate between co-existing formats.

Nothing but a cheap cash-in on the trend. "Vinyl" wasn't really the word back then, as we all know. We didn't use the world "vinyl" much. Same as "wax" as in "putting it on wax." That was outdated by that time, although I would have used that rather than "vinyl." I think "vinyl" is being unrealistically used during the 70s. As someone said "LP" or "Record" would have been the term. I'd say "vinyl" meaning records, really only has gone widespread in the last five years. The term was naturally used, but about as much as "polyvinyl chloride."

I'm looking forward to this, already have it set to record. Bobby Cannavale never disappoints, and I want to see how accurate it is about the time and the place.

I agree that "vinyl" is a slightly retrofitted term, but it also covers singles (45s, 7-inches) which were still a big component of the record biz of that era.
