I think the album is on schedule - they plan on touring next year, and this is the time frame I have been hearing about for months.

  3. Nostradamus was the band's management's idea...
I think that says it all.
It was a mistake... misguided at best.
It could have comfortably been cut down to a single disc...it would have been much better then.
Not a fan of the production either....all reunion album gradually sounding more 'synthetic' copy n paste etc.....
Give me Point, Turbo or Ram any day of the week.

No he was great on Angel, OK on Nostradamus but very weak on the last one. Sadly the decline of Rob's voice by now is so obvious even in the studio (not to mention live where he was painful to listen to for years now). Rob's last great studio performance is Halford's Made of Metal album. After that his voice declined big time.

  7. Over egging again Anton.
    Very weak??
I can't see that at all.
Not as varied as when he was younger... but not weak.

Rob's voice went through some problems several years back but he was great on the last tour and on Redeemer of Souls so I have no worry about him bringing it in the studio. That said, the comment by Andy Sneap in the original article....

...is ridiculous. Rob is 66 years of age and his studio and live vocals are out there for all to hear. So Sneap should dial the hyperbole back a little.

This has got me the most excited for a JP album since Rob returned now that Allom & Sneap are in charge & Tipton is away from the board :)

Yes it's much weaker even in the studio. He totally lost the higher range not to mention the screams and even his ballad voice now sounds weak. Live he's a disaster for years now not being able to even sing the melodies straight. It's a shame I never saw Priest in their prime because I don't want to see them now given Rob's issues.

I just seem to be able to enjoy it in the moment - I loved the vocals on the whole Redeemer of Souls album.

Haven't saw them live since 2008 I think - I will rectify that I hope all being well on the next tour.

  13. All I can say is I have saw Priest many times.....from 1980 onwards....and Robs always delivered, bar one ocassion....Dec 1983, just before Defenders was released.

    What was the problem there?

  15. Not really sure....he just sounded "off" a little bit....almost disinterested.
Wonder how many gigs he's done tho ehh???

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this, giving that I liked the last record, and I think Tom Allom's involvement could really benefit this record

  19. I don't rate it as highly as some do...very good without being great.
They tried to replicate Screaming For Vengeance....just look at the album cover and the Metalian insteaf of The Hellion etc....
The production is also not as good as previous albums.
Bass heavy and gated (now dated!!!) snare drum.
Also for me....they'd started following trends where they once set them.

Hard to argue with any of that but I still think it is better than anything that has come after.

I'm worried about the mastering since Tom Allom is involved. He mastered the deluxe Defenders reissue from 2015 (though I believe someone else helped him out), and that turned out to be the most compressed and horrific sounding Priest release ever. Yes, it was even worse than any of the 2001 remasters (except for Painkiller perhaps).

  23. I know what you mean, but if we think we are going to get a open and dynamic recording.....it ain't gonna happen.
It'll be loud and compressed....like any modern release, but hopefully at least mixed better than recent releases.
Look at Sneaps work on Arch Enemy or Megadeth.
No exactly dynamic...but at least they sound good, well produced.
