The 1976 version was heavily edited as well. The difference is that they were mostly 'clean' edits. The 2007 edition not only has woeful edits, a section of Bonham's solo in Moby Dick is put through a phaser or something, which if you have heard the bootlegs, was never used. On top of that, different versions of Rock and Roll and Celebration Day are used in lieu of the original 1976 release. If anything, the album should be re-titled "The Song No Longer Remains the Same".

At the very least, how about an audio release of DVD?

As someone who doesn't mind the remixed 2007 version (No Quarter aside), I look forward to hopefully a more dynamic sounding version of it like they did with HTWWW

What makes you think that ? Packaging ? I have many BDs that come in packaging like that. Plus there's enough room for the movie, and a lot more for audio.

And even though someone said earlier there's an agreement that extra scenes can't be inserted, I can't believe they would only provide video for 4 songs, without the film itself.
Of course, I could be wrong.

" There will be a BD-Audio (Blu-ray Audio package that will supply the HD Stereo Audio PCM and DTS HD Master Audio Stereo, and 5.1 DTS sets. In addition, the BD-Audio package will add in video performances of four songs not featured in the film (“Celebration Day”, “Over The Hills and Far Away”, “Misty Mountain Hop”, “The Ocean”). "

If the movie is included, I already see one improvement. DTS. I see the 2007 BD is Dolby TrueHD, and I've always preferred DTS.

Looks just like the format used for the How The West Was Won BR audio.

One of the things I vastly prefer the 2007 one on is the vocal edits however

With the original, there are a couple of moments of in-studio overdubs from Robert, mainly in a couple of moments from The Song Remains the Same and Stairway that standout as jarring, and I prefer the way they handled those parts on the 2007 edition

To me I actually really can dig the 2007 along with the original, I play both regularly. The 2007 has the songs that weren't included on the original so I find it essential for my collection. But when it comes to my "pure as-it-was" MSG fix though I usually play the soundboard of the 28th in all its glory

I know the extra songs were on the 2007 CDs, but were they on the 2007 DVD/BD?

Yes. Rough, but there on the BD. Watching right now.

I have decided that I am not buying any more re-issues of things I already have.

Barring any new content, or Jimmy stopping by my house to deliver my copy and have a beer, I think I’ll pass on this one.

So, I’m not ruling it out completely.

My attitude with the announcement of this release is in line with that of PacificOceanBlue. My initial reaction is one of disappointment. I was hoping for a '68 box. Depending on how heavy the September releases schedule is (and the 4th Quarter in full), I might spring for the 2-CD package. The box set is so ridiculous. The vinyl is what's helping to jack the cost of the thing up so high. I don't do vinyl anymore. The Super Deluxe is bloated in my eyes.

What exactly puts this in any way superior to the '07 Blu-ray release that also included the 4 "bonus" songs (as extras) that also included the Cameron Crowe interview. The original release' Blu-ray audio is hires Dolby TrueHD 5.1 so I don't even see any option for better audio even if the new disc is a Blu-ray audio-only release.

I know. I already own the 2007 lp box and the Classic Records set. Then any number of digital iterations and film iterations.
I can't imagine producing this set as the most valuable of all of the box sets.

I mean the vinyl reissues, I thought, were a big disappointment. They made them from digital transfers only from 24/96? I mean the Beatles Mono box, to me was the gold standard of what to do with an archival release. You want to please the fans? Go back one more time and try to get either the original tape masters or some low generation copies and make all analog re releases of those albums and put them in a box set like the Beatles Mono set. I'll gladly pay $500 for that. Hell, I'll pay $750 for that if they get a first rate engineer to master them (not Page) and have them done at QRP or an equivalent.

But $250 for, as someone already posted, "The Same Remains The Same"? No thanks.

Big fan, but I miss the days when they just had 10 albums. My Led Zep life is so chaotic these days.

The fact that this 2007 Blu ray looks so good* and sounds great** (retract my earlier statement) isn't helping to push me over to Jimmy's side, either.

That definitely needs a Blu-ray upgrade, particularly to make the "Song Remains" outtakes into anamorphic video
