Agreed, those endings...dildo, frogs, bowling pin, his movies often begin with a whimper and end with a bang.

What was that about? It didnt even need it. It was a a beautiful character study and period piece. I didn't like it. Ultimately a tale about Munchausen's disease? No...

    aroney Who really gives a...?

Sure it did. That was the "big reveal". She'd poisoned him before without him knowing about it and they bonded as she nursed him back to health.

At the end he ate them willingly, knowing he was going to be poisoned again and vulnerable. He was a control freak who realized that is what he craved/needed - there were some mommy issues too. ;)

I'll admit the first time I saw it I thought it was stupid too. 2nd time - it worked perfectly.

The post to which he responded didn't add "IMO" so why must @NightGoatToCairo do so?

Loved this movie as stated upstream. But Boogie Nights is his masterwork.

And PTA certainly had the option to write the male character as 18 years old. I fail to see how that could've negatively impacted his magnum opus.

I finally saw this yesterday. Lots of unnecessary stuff in the second half, but overall I enjoyed it.

Saw this on a plane today. The person watching it beside me was enjoying it, so I took up the rest of the flight watching it.

It's a straight-up instant classic! I remember visiting 70s Cali-L.A., and it was just like this. I guess the film got almost no Covid-year publicity, and little theater action, obviously; I never heard of the film until earlier today. But it deserved a wider audience. Had no idea the Haim sisters were in it (heck, the whole family).

People who liked Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Super Bad, Rushmore, After Hours, The Hollywood Knights, The Kids Are Alright tv show, will like this one (if you haven't seen it). I guess I'm late to the joint.

I watched it a few weeks ago and thoroughly loved it. I tried to explain the plot later to my wife and caught how extremely basic it is. I mean, the plot is barely there. Yet I could have watched another 3 hours of things that went on in their lives.

Odd movie that didn't really deepen or improve with my 2nd viewing. One watch is pretty much all you need.

Confusing pointless just plain stupid. I'm shocked anybody could like this movie, but apparently so, and this is coming from someone who was looking forward to seeing this like nobody's business, but man what a massive disappointment this was.
