Hello all! I don't think this has been discussed before, I want to know your opinion on the New Order 2015 remasters. Are they an improvement over the 2008 or the original CDs? Who mastered them? I think they haven't been released on CD to date, only through streaming services and download.
Added compression. Get Ready was not remastered as part of this campaign. I wasn't a fan of the PC&L 2015 so I never went further. IMO grab the oldies.
Besides the Singles set, are the rest of the 2015 remasters streaming only? Truth be told I haven’t heard any of it, being happy as I am with the 2008 reissues on CD (very good), on LP (excellent) and OG vinyl (of course).
Singles was a huge improvement in terms of SQ and actual track list (uses 7" versions) over the loudness war 2005 master.
I have all the 2015 remasters in hires 24/96. They've been remastered by Frank Arkwright. To my ears they sound better than the 2008 CD's. Especially Republic is a big improvement over the old CD.
Agreed, I prefer the 2008 generally. They are louder than the 2008, they have more bottom end, but the top sounds slightly rolled off to me. Overall they don't have the thinness that most NO recordings previously had so i prefer them. The remastered singles is a definite improvement but by most Hoffmanite's standards it's still very loud.
Wow, that looks as awful as the Blue Monday 2016 remaster on Singles. By the way, which CD has the best sounding version of the original 1983 mix of this song (Blue Monday)? All of my CDs make this song very loud and Substance, which isn't compressed, sounds awful to my ears
You didn't care for the Substance mastering? There is a slightly more compressed mastering on the Blue Monday 95 single. (DR-13) I haven't done any comparison's, between those and the old US Qwest. (PC&L) The UK mastering of Substance adds abit as well, 15 down to 14 I'll give em all a listen Edit: Oh yeah, you want the 95. Drum intro kicks serious ass while maintaining dynamics.
Well if you squash it horizontally of course it looks bad - replay gain is -6.7 which is not bad at all considering plenty of albums or north of -10 or -11 these days.
Shaved and re-leveled to -0.75, the damage was already done. If you enjoy them that's fine. Too much fatigue for my ears
I know there was an agonizingly long thread here about the remasters, but strangely, I can't find it now. I never bothered to buy any because of various issues that were reported in that thread: 1) overly brickwalled digital masters that don't compare with the originals; 2) multiple technical issues w/ the extras.
The 2015 digital downloads have no extras. The Problems were with the 2008 Special edition CD, corrected in 2009....
Ah! Thanks for the correction. How time flies... Anyway, I'm happy with the original vinyl releases I bought over the last two years (well, I've had the originals of Movement and PC&L since their first release). After listening to the original CD of Low-Life for many years, it wasn't until I got the vinyl that I realized "Love Vigilante" has a low synth bass part.
I can't find any thread about the 2015 remasters, either. If you can find it, plase, share the link here
