Yes. Worth saying again. It’s got that hard to define understated vinyl character that just blooms more as the volume knob advances clockwise - and is never quite captured on cd.
Not changing the subject - just wanted to point out that the Shooting Guns Nosferatu Live Score limited, reissue was released this week. Your avatar being from that movie and all.
Not sure what other versions you have. It is not as smooth as an eatly UK or US but yes it is good! I rate it above the 30th. Worth checking out.
I was in your position. I can honestly say the new Pulse Vinyl blows the DVD out of the water with it's wonderful bass and overall definition. I hear things I've never heard before each time I listen which I think I will do this morning, thank you very much. I don't mind the DVD as the surround is nice. But the way the new vinyl plays, I get a very wide soundstage. Most excellent. There's an easily searchable thread on the vinyl release you may wish to check out.
There are trade offs, but on the whole I LOVE it. During the crescendo in Us and Them, the layers are so clear it's like you're staring into a tunnel. No distortion anywhere. The only caveat with other pressings is that the BG has some sibilance in places - which can be annoying. Money is the brightest version I've heard, but you get used to it, being the tune that it is.
I have a 40th anniversary and the damn record is noisy after thoroughly cleaning it a few times. So I had to dive into the 2016 remastered vinyl release.
Umma is the only one I didn't get (it's still early. Maybe I can run to the store...) I have a mint Canadian copy with the ''Gigi'' whitened out and nver felt the need for another one, especially when it sounds so warm. Then again, maybe I DO need a copy WITH the Gigi...
I hear you. There were a lot of complaints about that one. Not to discourage you or anything, but I had to return the BG twice before I got a pristine copy. Of course, we're now two years later, so the batches are surely different. I hope you get a perfect copy!
Fired up 2016 Ummagumma on Thursday night. Quiet warm and outstanding sound. Worth the upgrade. Umma needed a serious reissue remaster. Beautiful!!
I pulled the trigger fully aware of that problem. Hopefully this issue won't be a problem. I will post on this thread of my B.G. DSOTM experience.
I love both the 30th anniversary (Doug Sax analogue sourced) and BG versions. As for the chorus of Us and them, I always felt it was a system challenge more than a pressing issue. All of my DSOTM versions play nicely but yes, the BG version seems easier on the tracking side.
