Fun OT fact: said singer - one Dave Fenton - is now the lead solicitor for the Musician's Union in the UK, and still has more or less the same haircut.
Artists from Slash Records or Epitaph Records. IR Shane, ever consider doing a subscription service similar to AF or MM?
Thanks for that! I'm a Big Star fan, I'll look into that. Cool That came up a while back. Some seemed in favor, others thought it was premature. I'm very open to the idea.
Yes I would. Kevin does everything I can get to the west coast. If tapes won't be released from the east coast, as is the case with Sony, I'll cut with Ryan Smith at Sterling. I wouldn't rule out in the future that I might even travel abroad to cut titles if they won't send tapes to the States.
Not at all. I love the 80s and 90s and I want very much to do a lot titles from that era, and a lot of them will either be digital all the way through or at least assembled only as digital. t've told the story a few times, including on my website, but even with Everclear there were no analog masters assembled, ever. So we cut from digital. I would also cut from digital any time that's the master recording format.
Thanks man, I have no preferences either way + that open's up the choices your willing to take on Like for instance- Cocteau Twins-Four Calendar Cafe' , No way in hell am I risking 100 plus on a possible sub-par Fontana press, hint hint
I"d love to do that and Heaven or Las Vegas. Like a lot of bands and labels they put their own reissues out so I don't expect them to be available soon.
I'll second both Elliot Smith and Spiritualized--the Plain reissues don't do them justice. And I'll add Beulah.
How about The Breeders- Pod & Last Splash? Or MBV- Isn't Anything & Loveless? There are probably lots of worthy 80's & 90's titles that Plain Records has reissued, yet totally managed to screw up somehow. Or Four Men With Beards, for that matter.
Were you not able to secure titles because they were currently licensed to someone else? It seems like there are often several different versions of albums in print, a la the Beach Boys albums from AP and Capitol right now.
Different labels handle "formats" differently. For example, in some cases a 45 RPM or even a colored version is a different "format." I am just saying that a number of the 90s titles mentioned here I've asked for and are currently under deals with Plain. They have good taste!
I get goose bumps just imagining what the packaging for 10,000 days, Anima, and Lateralus would look like.
