I'd wait to see if Rhino Handmade re-issues it. After their recent poll, there is a very good chance this and the Monkees' Headquarters Sessions will once again be available.

Good idea. As they say, "good things come to those that wait."

Strikes me that if they're going to reissue The Complete Funhouse Sessions box, it'd make good sense to do it alongside the release of this new Stooges set.

Looks good ! As for the price, really, those double CDs are sold for like 8 bucks (I did get the 2005 ones for like 6 bucks each) it's not like they are swindling the fanbase.

    $50 bucks! No thanks!

Rhino taps into the untamable sonic assault of The Stooges' self-titled debut for our next Handmade exclusive. Issued in a 7"x 7" hardbound booklet, THE STOOGES COLLECTOR'S EDITION features 26 tracks, including original John Cale mixes, alternate takes and 6 previously unreleased tracks. The 2-CD set also includes a 7" single of the previously unreleased, long sought-after track "Asthma Attack."

  12. This smacks of a rip-off - I mean, why didn't they offer all of these tracks as part of an ultra-deluxe edition when the 2CD remasters were issued a couple of years back, instead of suckering the more rabid fans into buying yet another copy of the debut?

Nevertheless, I'll probably be splurging for this!

I want it, but will not pay $50 for a handful of songs. I was thinking that I would get gouged for $29.99 and was preparing to justify it. I can't justify $50 for two short CDs and a 45. These bonus tracks will leak, and I'll hear them when they do.

I'm a huge fan & will buy it but already have all the older versions so not getting much new. Also have you all noticed (to my knowledge) NONE of this Rhino Handmade stuff is limited or numbered anymore so they may stay in print forever (Monkees Birds & Bees box & Jan & Dean CD's were this way). I've bought most their output & I'm happy to have but may now balk on the Chris Bell & Wilson Pickett (I'll assume I can get them anytime in the future?). With this economy you would think they would try to push us collectors to buy them more (the bonus Monkees 7" was cool though).

    Two reasons:

    1) The session tapes were discovered well after the release 2CD Rhino reissue. I don't think anyone expected session reels form the 1st album to turn up. 17 minutes of Little Doll and Real Cool Time takes is most welcome for me.

    2) I believe there was some sort of contractual issue that kept Asthma Attack off the first issue. The 30 sec clip is interesting. Sounds like a better executed and recorded end of set freak out than LA Blues.

I see the remaining Cale mixes as filler. I hated the 4 Cale mixes used on the first issue. I listened to the clips on my PC and they did seem like they sounded much better. IIRC the best source available on the first issue was a cassette Danny Fields had. Maybe they found the Cale mixdowns? We Will Fall sounds very different mixed by Cale. Over 1 minute longer too.

 The Ummagumma IO was a big dissapointment for me. Might be because the guitar is mixed really low for some reason.

I think that's exactly what I said. I ain't buying it. Even with the
20% off, $40 is too much.

the monkees box discount coupon makes it (barely) worth while for me (ordering it now), thanks to Chris M's response I feel better about this (not that they are milking/gouging us on purpose at least) so anybody know when Rhino Handmade suddenly were no longer numbered/limited?
