Interesting....it hasn't shown up online yet at many retailers, however. Thanks for sharing; I'll definitely be keeping my eye open for this.
Anyone have any connections at Warner Bros. that can tell us when this may come out?? Seems weird they release the "Somewhere Under Heaven" single and announce "from the forthcoming album.." so far back and no album is showing up yet.
I was really impressed with "Somewhere Under Heaven" and really was hoping for 5.1 versions of both volumes of Wildflowers. I got so sick of waiting I bought the Pono hi-rez version of volume 1. I was really impressed with it, but I still hold out for a 5.1 mix.
Still hearing it's coming...but nothing is firm. I'd guess it will be released next year and timed with the 40th anniversary of Petty and the Heartbreakers (although WF was, technically, a solo Petty record).
Bump...ANY news on this??? Why release a single from an "upcoming" album and 6 months later it's still not out???
I've been following this supposed release for so long that I'm not going to believe anything till I have a copy in my hand.
For those who don't know or recall, it's a cheap reference to one of those Jack Handey new-agey "Deep Thoughts" voiceovers that used to be on Saturday Night Live. This one went something like: "If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did." On the good side, whenever this thing finally comes out, we'll know you fixed it.
There was an earlier post with an interview with Tom where he said (paraphrasing) that the label wanted to put the bonus "Wildflowers" material out as its own album rather than as a Deluxe version. I'm guessing they realize that a "Wildflowers" reissue will do plenty well on its own and need to time the release of the "new" album from the bonus material to fit in with planned tours. There's also issues with backlogs getting vinyl pressed though I'm guessing Petty can command enough volume to skip some folks in line. My guess is the "Wildflowers" reissue will drop fairly out of the blue once it's ready and we'll get the "new" bonus album later. 100% speculation on my part though, but I'd love to know too.
I'm guessing they're waiting til next summer or around that time. There's a new Mudcrutch record almost complete, the band's 40th anniversary, and the WF re-issue/lost tracks album all forthcoming. As a fan, who has been waiting YEARS for the lost WF tracks to be released or show up in a collection, the release of the single in June with no communication afterwards is disappointing to say the least. Awful PR management. But that's nothing new from the Petty camp... There's several tracks that have been known about that were recorded during WF: Leave Virginia Alone Confusion Wheel Something's Gonna Happen Couple others that I can't remember right now Along with the She's The One tunes: Climb That Hill California Hope You Never Etc.
I reckon this'll be announced/released in conjunction with the band's 40th anniversary tour. Probably late Q1 2016.
Just got a message from the Petty mailing list but it was not the announcement I was hoping for... just notification that the two discs of outtakes etc from the Playback boxed set have been released digitally. Wow. Not.
Yup. They finished up recording in October. Last I heard TP was still doing vocals. On a side note, I just received an email that TPATH are releasing the two 'outtakes' discs from Playback digitally. Great. (insert sarcasm).
