I watched "The Comedian" today and have mixed feelings about it. As someone's mentioned, the pacing was a little slow, and it would have probably played better at a half hour. Like the second episode, I loved the cinematography and the overall look of the episode and the acting was fine. I shouldn't really have a problem with the course language - and it sort of adds to the realism - but it's a shame that this show can't be family friendly like all other TWILIGHT ZONEs over the years. I wonder if the course language scenes were filmed twice for a possible syndication someday on regular TV.
I agree about the varying story lengths being an advantage for the above reason. However, it did have some disadvantages by going with story lengths that are not a factor of 60 minutes (such as 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes). As an example, one of my favorite stories ("The After Hours") has been significantly edited to fit it into the rerun package which eliminated many of the scenes which drove home the horror. For that reason, I hope they go with story lengths of 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes to allow for syndication with minimal editing. I think staying with those lengths will provide the needed time for each story. As an example, I think that some stories could be well told in just 10 minutes of time.
agreed, but if I had my way I would opt for all stories be at least 30 minutes and some 60-90 minutes!...I loved the hour long original series Twilight Zones...
It sucks. Replay started off with a lame premise, the kind of thing comedians do bits on - what if life had a replay button like a tv remote? As it went on, it did get better with the variations etc, but once again, the ending sucked, as it was so heavy handed and cringeworthy. None of the three eps so far have had good endings (they always feel tacked-on) and the material in general has been meh.
"Replay" was pretty good, if a little heavy-handed. Glenn Fleshler, as Officer Lasky, was impressive as the terrifying antagonist of the piece. I'd not experienced him in anything memorable before, but I think he gave me nightmares from this performance.
There are three episodes. Only the first is available on YouTube as a promotional tool. All of the rest are on CBS All Access, a pay-streaming service. The same one that gets you STAR TREK: DISCOVERY.
pretty much! I'm sticking with it although it is not as good as the other remakes...I actually liked the 90's version better!
Silverman nails it! Thanks for posting the video. It was a bit short at the part you mentioned so I found this voice demo reel that especially makes it real at the 22 second mark...
So far for me it's been trash. Stories have been not too good, bad language has been a problem. I liked the originals and the 80's versions that i can watch with family members of various ages but this current series is not family oriented. Just trash. I hope they can pull it out of the gutter because I love Twilight Zone but this new series seems like a poor imitation.
