    George Harrison on Twitter:

"George would invite Billy Preston to play with @TheBeatles during the 'Get Back' sessions and Preston would become the only musician to be credited on a Beatles record aside from the group"

Not exactly true. If I recall correctly, Anil Bhagwat was the first musician to be credited on a Beatles record aside from the group, and this was on the back cover of Revolver in 1966:

Actually both of you are right. Preston is the only person that officially stood next to the band name as a featured person.
Not counting Tony Sheridan though, as they were Sheridan & The Beat Brothers and the crediting 'Beatles & Sheridan' happened when the Fabs became famous.

Yes, but George's tweet does not say that. The tweet says "Preston would become the only musician to be credited on a Beatles record aside from the group", which is not true. Anil Bhagwat was credited. In fact, Mal Evans was also credited on Rubber Soul, but I didn't consider him to be a "musician".

Billy was the only musician to be credited (or given a co-billing) on a Beatles 45. That would be accurate.

Just goes to show you that dead people shouldn't tweet.

Well, the tweet mentions "... on a Beatles record", so this could mean what's written on the label.

Of course, Alan Civil was also credited here on "For No One."

That's not what they meant. They made a factual mistake in that tweet, although 99% of the public won't know otherwise or even care.

If "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" would have been the single instead of "Get Back" ...

... there's no way it's "The Beatles with Mal Evans"

    Yes, also true.

But Anil Bhagwat was credited on Side 1. Alan Civil was credited on Side 2.

Side 1 comes before Side 2.

    The winner is Anil...

    ;)

Here's what George said about the song:

Wah Wah was written during the Let It Be fiasco, which began with the rehearsal of songs and ended up as the movie Let It Be. We had been away from each other after having had a very difficult time recording the White album. That double album was so long it went on forever, and there were all kinds of other bull**** things happening in the band; pressures and problems and after that we came back from a holiday, and went straight back into the old routine. It is that concept of how everybody sees and treats everybody else, allowing no consideration that we are changing all the time.

I remember Paul and I were trying to have an argument and the crew carried on filming and recording us. Anyway after one of those first mornings — I couldn't stand it; I decided this is it! — it's not fun anymore — it's very unhappy being in this band — it's a lot of crap — thank you I'm leaving. Wah Wah was a 'headache' as well as a foot pedal. It was written during the time in the film where John and Yoko were freaking out screaming — I'd left the band, gone home — and wrote this tune.

Awesome that George refers to the director's cut, since the "freaking out screaming" was edited out when the film was trimmed. Certain to be restored on the super deluxe edition DVD/blu-ray set. :)

Well, George Martin was the 5th Beatle, so I was looking for the first outside musician to be credited--which was Anil.

By the way: Is Anil alive? Has Anil ever given an interview? (I'm sure Lewisohn is working on it.)

But, again, Harrison's tweet says the only musician other than The Beatles. George Martin was not a Beatle.

The three of them are on both channels, that's because I mixed together two different takes of the chorus, each panned to one side of the stereo image.

Awesome job! I tried messing with the last rehearsal with Billy Preston-importing a George vocal (the take is tight but his vocal faint). Several years ago I successfully imported John and Paul harmonies on the finished version, but it is long lost and later efforts were tough.
