I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but try finding it with the search engine ;-)

    From The Guardian:

"The Who announce first album in over 20 years

    Georgia Brown
    Tuesday February 7, 2006

Middle-aged mods The Who are hoping to woo a new generation of fans with the release this summer of their first new album in more than two decades.
Pete Townshend recently made the announcement on his website, saying: "I know I've cried wolf a few times, but this time I have committed because I have about enough music for a new CD, and I'm still producing."

The new material may have been a long time in the pipeline, but it seems that 2006 has been earmarked by The Who for a full-scale return to the rock scene."

The Who without Keith Moon was OK for me, I enjoy Face Dances a lot. But the Who without Keith Moon and John Entwistle is hardly imaginable. It's not The Who anymore, IMO. The Live8 performance was decent, though.

Agree except the Live 8 performance was the performance of the concert

Of course it's not the Who anymore (for me the Who died in 1978), but I'm fine with Pete and Roger. They could put out the new album as a Townshend/Daltrey thing, like Page and Plant did, but we all know that Moonie and the Ox have passed, don't we?

This would be like Paul & Ringo doing an album and calling it The Beatles! :shake:

If you're playing with semantics yea....but in reality, it would be like John and Paul calling themselves the Beatles circa 1979.

Yeah, but I would have bought that 1979 "Beatles" album in a second.

The new Who is one I'm less optimistic about:

    * In 1979, the last we'd heard of The Beatles was *Let it Be* 9 years earlier

    * In 2006, the last we'd heard of The Who was *It's Hard* 24 years earlier!

Very true....of course if it was possible for John and Paul to reunite now, the difference in years would be an afterthought :) Nice try Lobo...you only said WHO is Roger in the analogy :righton:

I think the album is called WHO CARES.

Just kidding. ;) I'm curious to hear it, although I can't say my expections are high, and I don't think it's "The Who". Don't know if I'll purchase it though.

What are these guys supposed to do? Just stop making music? I suppose you guys have a big problem with Syd-less Floyd too!!

Myself, I can't wait to hear Zak pounding away!!!!

Why don't Pete and Roger work with Paul and Ringo?

They can call it: The Whotles

That's the best idea I've heard all day!!! LOL

Really, it beats reading posts about whether musicians should play or not.

If john were still around and he and Paul went out on tour as Beatles2 I could live with that. This is what Pete (the songwriter) and Roger (the voice) are doing. Yeah I am a Who fan from way back (my first show was in 66) and i will go see this tour ONLY if they have some new material. I have avoided any tours since the 89 "reunion" tour because it was just a Hit show. Now that they have some new songs, I will go.

I think the more apt comparison is, what if Mick and Keith went on tour with a bunch of session musicians and called themselves the Rolling Stones. You've still got the two most important elements of the Stones, but that would be enough for some and not for others.

Man, didn't we just beat the "Who's Not Who" thing to death in this thread

The most interesting "news" in the Guardian story was that several of the songs on the new album apparently relate to the Beslan children's massacre.

Please, God, don't let it be a concept album about the Beslan children's massacre.
