I can see the Flo and Eddie band doing “Gregory Peckory”. After all, it’s not that far off from “Billy the Mountain”.

So, after years of crediting Mothers Of Invention recordings as "Frank Zappa", they're now crediting Zappa recordings as "The Mothers"??

Should I be moving my copy of 'Chunga's Revenge' to the "M" shelves now?

Totally! At the same time, though, I also wonder if fans would have wanted two consecutive albums with side-long pieces like that on them.

Interesting. Had he written the music and words for them to do, or was the vile foamy liquid still brewing?

I think it was more of the vile foamy liquid brew. But he was supposed to have started it with them in mind. He did perform it as an instrumental with the Wazoo ensemble in the fall of '72, evidenced by the 2007 Wazoo live release. No vocalists, so no vocals. According to Wikipedia, he finished it during the One Size Fits All sessions in 1974. That's the same album that included his Sofa suite, tracks that were performed with Flo & Eddie on their final tour and in fact, at that last concert at the Rainbow.

I think it’s still technically a Zappa release. And in fairness, this group was officially known as the Mothers or the Mothers of Invention. Rather or not it’s truly the Mothers, that’s up to the fan.

Me personally, I run a Mothers group on Facebook, and I allow people to post the seventies lineups and refer to any of the seventies members as their favorite Mother. That said, I do tend to think of the original group as being the “true” Mothers. First, it’s more practical when discussing Frank’s career as a whole as he obviously went through a fair few groups and lineups. Also, for me it’s the same thing as the “Not Ready For Prime Moniker” for the original SNL cast vs subsequent casts. For me, it just doesn’t feel right to use the name when talking about other eras, because while all fans will naturally have their favorite era, those are the icons, the ones that got the ball rolling, so just out of respect, I only use the Mothers name in regards to the original group.

Putting that diatribe aside, it is technically the Mothers.

No, it's still credited to "Frank Zappa".
"The Mothers 1970" is the name of the record.

Sounds like an improvement over the not-entirely-convincing Road Tapes #3 performances. I'm in!

They were a pretty tight unit by the end of 1971, they were the band of F&E's 1st lp.
