Preordered the Blue Mitchell title, sounds like a nice one.
Hope they or Craft does Blue Soul or Blue’s Moods in a similar manner.
Also wondering why they skipped a catalogue ID NEWLAND003…

Looks like 003 could be announced on the 8th of September.

Also, interestingly, Newland Instagram account seems to have not yet addressed some questions they received on their posts on whether the original analogue tape transfers KG uses to cut the lacquers are done in the analogue domain.

I am not that fussed about source medium as long as the mastering is done right (and these are by KG so should be good) but I hoped the recent events would underline the importance of clarity in marketing.

It’s interesting to see a new label releasing high quality records like these three. This is what a reissue should be. I’m curious about nr.3 :D.

After experiencing QC issues with Newland’s Gerry Mulligan release, I am happy to report that my copy of Blue Mitchell is flat and free of surface noise. Nice matte cover too:

Do you know if this album and other New Land’s releases were mastered from an analogue source orthere was a digital step here? The info on hypestickers shows „mastered from the original Analogue Tape Transfers”, a copy of original tape of a digital file could be used. I like the sound of each three releases very much, so I don’t want to complain, but to know the kind of source.

Looks like on Dusty Blue at least, they used BMG's existing digital transfers of the original analogue tape, as the tape is lost now.
They mention that on Night Lights, they used the actual original tapes but it's probably also from a transfer as the hype sticker suggests, which I assume a digital transfer.

You'd think that labels would get the need for absolute clarity after what Mofi went through but here we are, still trying to get a word here, a word there and having to make assumptions... They are doing the exact same thing Mofi did (on their OneStep inserts), explaining the whole process but omitting a detail while making you think you got the full picture.

Ordered Dusty Blue. I always counted on it being digital so Im fine with it. I wonder if they transferred tapes to PCM or DSD back in those days (90s I guess?). Not that I think one sounds worse but DSD does not allow edits so if its that then I guess its a quite flat off the tape sound the Kevin is cutting.

I have ordered Dusty Blue 4 times (2 Amazon, 2 Ochre), all of them came with top seam splits.
And I don't think I’m the only one. They’ll need to seriously re-think their packaging decisions for the next releases.
