This box set has been on my vinyl wish list for a long time! I just pre-ordered it from Amazon.de. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - B-Sides & Rarities Parts I & II Box Set
Remember those purchasing outside of the UK or EU wont pay VAT Was £152.64 delivered to a US address from Amazon UK
I never really went deep with the first set. Probably need to pull that out and put it back into rotation here soon.
Wow, really? I think the first volume is an absolutely stellar collection. (I still wouldn't pay that much just to have it on vinyl though.)
I ordered yesterday and it has not appeared on my bank account yet - through paypal so that might delay it.
Yeah, but Skeleton Tree was different to me. It was very simple, but it meant/signified something. After the death of Arthur, it was like everything had shut down, as if the (Nick's?) system had just gone into boot mode, just existing, no flourishes, no embellishments, no romanticising of the situation. That simplicity actually made sense to me and was actually very powerful, particularly when the rich, detailed and very romanticised artwork for Ghosteen was released, the complete antithesis to Skeleton Tree's dark simplicity - an artist very much in a different place with his grief than he had been in the early stages. So yeah, actually, I think Skeleton Tree's artwork was stellar... the B-Sides Collection, on the other hand, just seems like anti-artwork, to me. Like 'just label it so people know what it is'.
I'll have to listen again, I remember there being a few interesting things, but not much I'd want to return to many times.
I don't think the 7 LP boxset will sell ot, seeing as this is a preorder. Isn't that the point of preorders? They'll know how how many they need to press.
No. if they wanted to do it that way they'd have to do the pre-order a LOT earlier. I can guarantee you that this is already pressing.
Ordered it at JPC.de for 180 Euro with the nice feeling that the boxset will arrive safely because I know that they never disappoint in secure packaging
Looking forward to this. The third disc of the first set is one of my favorite Nick Cave releases, love the b-sides and rarities of The Boatman’s Call, No More Shall We Part and Nocturama.
Big feature on the new compilation in the latest issue of Uncut magazine in the UK. Input from Cave and assorted Seeds and the article is marked as an “Exclusive!”.
Me too, especially the Nocturama ones. "Shoot Me Down", "Swing Low" and "Nocturama" are really great. I usually listen to Nocturama with those 3 inserted and "Bring It On", "Dead Man In My Bed" and "Babe, I'm On Fire" removed.
I love the concept of "Skeleton Tree" with it's oversized sleeve mimicking an old Commodore screen. That's pretty unique....
One worry with a set like this is 7 LPs being pressed when QC is down at many plants, especially Optimal which is typically a great pressing plant. Just more issues lately (mainly non-fill). Also those hard cover sleeves can cause scratches at times. But I do enjoy Nick Cave spinning on my turntable. Concerns aside, I love when an artist puts out a side like this. I think it looks beautiful overall. I also think the artwork suits it fine. Simple, plain and too the point.
I've been concerned about this, too, especially given the fact that in my experience, Nick's vinyls are not of great quality. Is Optimal where most of his records have been pressed? I actually had no issues with the pressing for Carnage but I know others have. Anyhow, very much looking forward to this.
