As Brad Pitt is such a big fan you'd think so. However The Nick Drake Estate is run by Cally Callomon. Everything goes through him & Gabrielle. They are strict about what can & cant be done. The monetary temptations are there but they and previously Joe Boyd, have always kept Nick's legacy pure. I base this on the extended Q&A session at the Rough Trade book launch of Gabrielle's book (covered on this thread) Present in the audience was a TV journalist Quentin Rayner (East Midlands Today) who is a fan. We asked a LOT of questions.
Why would anyone want a biopic of Nick Drake? Biopics are almost invariably crap, and this is a particularly horrible idea. The only thing that could make this thought worse is if Todd Haynes got involved. Enjoy the music, but leave Nick’s legacy out of Hollywood, for pity’s sake.
I am very sorry for your loss ,My deep condolences . Way To Blue is such a Magnificent magical song from such a glorious album.
Can’t see any major film companies being interested as Nick is not a household name. Wonder what Nick would make of all the interest there is of his music now.
Well if there is not more reissue vinyl( studio albums). Guess that’s lead to a Comp of sorts. Assuming any media forthcoming in the near future.
Surely the Nick Drake product machine has been squeezed dry over the last two decades. An official biography - and at least two others. The official home recordings (Family Tree) so we don't have to listen to the bootlegs anymore. A radio biography narrated by a Hollywood star ! At least two visual biographies - one of which is excellent. The official studio recordings and albums, all remastered and re-issued on CD and vinyl. The studio out-takes/cash-in compilations. Even the John Peel session is out there. What else could be left? Nothing I should imagine.
I got into Nick about 8 months ago after reading for years how great he was. I have listened to him at least once a week since first playing Pink Moon for about 5 hours one rainy dark day last year. I've just read this thread nearly completely and it's amazing the insight you all have here.
Odd. Musical level? That’s usually a muso thing. Don’t think she was a Joni Mitchell ie; off kilter guitar tunings, musician.
It was but I have really got into Bryter Layter these past couple of months. I think, as a whole, it's probably a perfect album. At The Chime of a City Clock is one of the greatest songs ever.
I had a monthly subscription for Mojo then ( a few years at least) still have that copy. Think this is what triggered me into buying Drake‘s albums.
Let me look back at the reviews I did in the thread. I am having a senior moment on how the unison strings affected the key.
It's a 90 minute film squeezed into a five minute song but there's just as much great story that it's not a second wasted.
Prefer the 20th Century Mojo mags first five years. Became a bit deja vu imo with issues after that, though they sometimes got inspired.
Yeah, long been a favourite. When I first heard it I was caught slightly off-guard as he was singing about the city rather than the country, but it didn't take long for me to get caught up in the brilliance of it. It's in my top 5, more likely top 3 songs by him.
