No, very much home audio, albeit at the deluxe end. I think it was a Rodney purchase and if memory serves there was an earlier recorder too.
What was the earlier model / make ? Yeah! The b&o were early stylish hifi ( not cheap). Used to see Ferrograph a bit ( expensive)Grundig ( consumer )Sony TC377..& Tandberg.
Those are the oft mentioned artists but if you really dig into Cale's discography he's also been involved with recording artist in the fields of French disco, Corsican choral singing, New Zealand indie rock, medieval Latin poetry, Northern Soul....the list is endless
Yeah, I thought this was about as accurate as we are going to get with regards to the current state of Nick's original recordings. Sadly, it seems quite common to read " the original tapes are unusable" or "can't be located" ......a shame.
at Island office.. “ would you like a cup of tea” .. Nick“ yes“ Pink Moon RTr tape was played through a big Revox ( A77/B77?).
Unfortunately, many of Nick's tapes went up in smoke in the Universal Studios fire in 2008. Not sure which ones though, or whether safety copies are stored elsewhere.
As part of the John Cale continuity. Just curious about the existence of Nico‘s Island’s Master tape. Maybe sales paltry like Pink Moon. She made a comment about the palm tree label design. didn’t make a follow up album for Island.
Pink Moon, Gorm Henrick Rassmussen The author discovered Nick in 1978, in a similar fashion to myself . Late night vinyl session, a friend tells you that you really should hear this... In a few short months in '78 Gorm had tracked down the Drakes & visited them at Far Leys. The book, in Danish was published in 1986. English version in 2012. In the way that Gabrielle Drake's book is a direct link to her brother, Pink Moon is the link to Molly & Rodney Drake. Amongst other stories, it tells how Nick became uncharacteristically angry late into his return to the family home. How he smashed 2 acoustic guitars and the electric he'd started to get into. This helped me come to a person decision, that his was not suicide. He was directing his anger at the illness that hindered his writing and caused his insomnia. So in a late night outburst he took way too many Tryptizol. An overdose of which was unknown to be fatal to the Drakes. The very first Nick Drake book I'd strongly recommend it. steve
Been meaning to get this. Must say really don’t like the cover, which is more akin to Scott Walker 3/ Tilt. Aside ..it’s the content that counts. Good score!!!!
