He's extremely good in ''Red Rock West'' as is the movie, one of my absolute favorites.

Yes he was never better than he is in this movie. The whole cast is great including Dwight Yoakum for the short amount of time he's in it. His song caps off the movie beautifully and makes you wish it never ended.

I read an article somewhere about him and apparently this went viral. It does crack me up. What is that?

Money, or the lack thereof. It's what happened to Joseph Cotten and Sir Basil Rathbone. One day you're in Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt or The Adventures of Robin Hood, the next you're doing Italian horror movies or Hillbillies in a Haunted House.

    Getting on a bit.
Maybe time to be in a Tarantino movie.
QT sure loves working with mature actors.

Perhaps, but this is all speculation, and I think Cage was far from the only actor who started his/her career before they were aware who they were "as a person".

Plus, it's not like Cage is the first actor to go total "method" or go to extremes.

I stand by my original comment: the Kael statement seems glib and illogical.

    Did you not see Joe?

I think of his filmography as similar to the Beach Boys discography.. Buried deep beneath the garbage they did in the 70s, there's some really good treasures to be found..

Have seen nearly every one of his latest films since 2010, but not that one.

Yeah..kinda agree. But, Big Daddy & Port Of New Orleans was something else. Heck I even like his Ghost Rider (3D) Spirit....also the sexy Drive Angry ( in 3D, no less:)).

He was excellent in Joe. Another relatively recent one (4 or 5 years ago) where he gave a solid performance is The frozen ground

Great movie... almost like a modern film noir. :)

For years, the only DVD copy I was ever able to find was a crappy full-screen edition from TVA Films.... but just recently, I finally tracked down a copy of the widescreen DVD from Columbia Tri-Star. (It's not available yet on Blu-ray at all).

I have that widescreen DVD, cannot wait for the Blu-Ray. When we finally get one i hope it's done right and stacked with extras.

  20. I thought he was good in the movie Army of One (last year) its a B movie based on true story and hilarious yet charming at the same time.

I have an even better question-how does an Oscar-winning talented actress like Halle Berry end up on B TV shows? (Evolution).

Isn't the difference between Cage and some of the Michael Caine's of the acting, was that Caine still had acting chops and was always the high point of otherwise bad films?
