Could someone explain to me the thing with the "the very, very bright Waller-Bridge" ? I've seen it in several posts and the meaning eludes me. I know who is Waller-Bridge but what about the brightness ?
Do you mean bottlenose dolphins? Seriously, intents and purposes is a legal phrase. If you're not a lawyer, you probably don't know exactly what it means--myself included, not being a JD.
The origin they show in the 2008 movie was a homage to the TV series, and didn't resemble what happened in the 2003 movie. So this one was not playing coy about whether it was a reboot or not. There was no need or desire to tell the origin in long form again, just as they didn't for the MCU Spider-Man. No movie ever comes out and slaps the word 'reboot' on its trailers, but it's a matter of how clear an impression they give that it's a reboot. If there was any doubt, this one makes it clear to the viewer immediately by telling the origin in a way that contradicts what was depicted in the first movie.
I have not kept up on this thread after reading a few spoilers. Just got back from the theater, and the word that comes to mind is 'dour.' I thought Phoebe Waller-Bridge was hired to punch up the script...where was the fun, yo?
I'm totally befuddled by this screenplay. Typical exchange: Bond: Have you flown one of these before? Agent: No. (end scene)
COVID. Blah blah blah. Wore a mask in between popcorn and bourbon & Diet Coke. BYO flask. No 70mm or IMAX film presentation, so I attended a Cinemark XD screening on Tuesday night. Empty theater. Fabulous picture. Good enough to notice digital car in the opening chase. Surrounded by sound but didn’t notice the object based Atmos / Auro surround. Good fun. I’m going to miss Felix. Thank you Mr. Wright.
Hopefully someone else didn’t beat me to it and this render my list redundant, but in Majesty’s when Bond tenders his resignation and proceeds to clean out his desk, he pulls out gadgets from previous films. Its a clever way to say to the audience “hey it’s still the same guy!” when introducing a new lead. Doctor Who has gotten quite good at this over the years. Maybe having watched so much of that other British institution has made me less concerned with the ending of No Time to Die. It’s all timey-wimey anyway… PS - saw it tonight with the wife and 14 year old daughter. We all loved it, my daughter especially. I was going to go back to the beginning and show her Dr. No, but I think now Majesty’s would be appropriate. Both my girls love Bond though…hope for the future!
One of the things I liked so much about the Craig era was it dispensed with all the ridiculous gadgets--an important development considering how far tech devices have come since the early 007 films. The fanciest it got with gadgets was the wristwatches in Spectre and this current film, and the turrets on the car. Prior to that Bond mocked Q for giving him a gun and radio, which was a nice touch. I wish I could get my kid to watch the 007 movies, but there's no interest. I went to the theater alone yesterday and got my got all my daddy viewing done with a double-matinee of the Bond and the new Ridley Scott film, which wasn't nearly as entertaining.
I just got back from watching it. I liked it, but honestly I realized I did not like Daniel Craig as James Bond. Casino Royale was great....the lastest one was better than some other of his films.
Clear and Present Danger Jack Ryan: You have any time in this model? Pilot: (looks at watch) About quarter to three. Ryan (shakes head and smiles)
Or, sticking with Harrison Ford movies... Henry Jones: I didn't know you could fly a plane! Indy: Fly, yes. Land, no. Both versions are much better.
Odd I've never noticed or forgot, either way we all know he would never drink that stuff. That's like well vodka.
If you want to taste a vodka Martini that tastes like the ones Ian Fleming enjoyed, 100 proof Smirnoff would be appropriate. The ABV / Proof / Flavor of most modern vodka has been smoothed over. The ones that do have a taste have been dosed with glycerine and such. For the stray vodka martini or Moscow mule, I keep a 100 proof handle Smirnoff or Jacquin’s Royale 100 around so I can taste the booze against the mixers.
Yeah, I guess. I just don't really view something as a true "reboot" when it tosses out the origin in such an abbreviated manner. "Inc Hulk" and "Amaz Spidey" were "soft reboots", unlike "Batman Begins" or "Casino Royale"...
Huh - I didn't realize Scott directed "Last Duel". Crazy that he has 2 movies coming out in rapid succession: "Duel" now and "House of Gucci" next month. I assume the scheduling is due to COVID postponements of at least 1 of those 2!
In the books, Bond preferred Russian vodka distilled from potatoes. So, you are right. Bond would not drink Smirnoff, which is made from corn.
