..and/or Lindsey Buckingham sang/played on. Trying to come up with a list..an obscure one I remember is "Smiling Islands" by Robbie Patton from 1983..Stevie sings lead on the end of the song...
"Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan, from the Not Shy LP. They're on at least a few tracks across the album.
If I'm remembering correctly, They're both all over Walter Egan's ' Fundamental Roll' album. Good record but haven't heard it in ages.
Not a proper single, but they made a video for "Insider." Same era as "Stop Draggin," but this one was technically Tom & The Heartbreakers with Stevie. (Apparently, Tom was gonna give it to Stevie for her album, but she insisted he keep it. And he could just write her another to "call it even." That led to Draggin.)
Last one.... The OTHER Jon Stewart hit with Stevie Nicks on backup. She's killing it from about 3 minutes on out!
Stevie Nicks did background vocals on two tracks on Tom Snow's self titled album: Hurry Boy and Rosanna. The lp came out in 1976. In the courtesy of section, Nicks is credited as Stephanie Nicks of Warner Bros.
Always feel compelled to tell this story on Stevie Nicks threads.... Years ago Stevie got it in her head that she wanted to join Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. She wasn't looking at headlining, just wanted to be in the group. You know, singing and some percussion playing. She met Petty for lunch one day to lay this on him. He laconically told her in that drawl of his that there were no girls in The Heartbreakers.
I always found it odd that Loggins didn't sing this with Melissa Manchester since he wrote it with her. I was reading (IIRC) the liner notes of a Manchester best of and, apparently, Clive Davis (then head of Arista) didn't think the song had commercial potential. I remember seeing the tour to support Rumours. Loggins opened the show and Nicks came out to sing the song with him.
Warren Zevon's s/t album (1976) - Both sing harmony on Mohammed's Radio. Lindsey plays guitar on Backs Turned Looking Down The Path. Warren Zevon's album The Envoy (1982) - Lindsey sings harmony on The Overdraft.
Not quite. Tom decided he liked the song so much that he couldn’t give it to her. It was his decision. And then he didn’t write her a new song but rather gave her one that had already been written, that being “Stop Draggin”. So, while “Insider” was written for Stevie, “Stop Draggin” was not. Stevie also sings on “You Can Still Change Your Mind” from the same album.
Tom Petty - Walls (Circus Version) Lindsay is all over it. Production makes it sound like it could be a song off of one of his records.
Vanessa Carlton - The One features Nicks on vocals Her previous album’s hit single White Houses featured Lindsay on guitar. Gotta hand it to her and Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind to ask them to support these albums “before they were cool” (again).
Tom Petty - The Apartment Song with Stevie. Pretty sure this version appeared on the American Treasure box
I had a similar thread specifically with Petty awhile back. Tom Petty/Fleetwood Mac collaboration playlist Had tracked these down, more in the thread, mostly live: You Can Still Change Your Mind (Stevie Nicks background vocals) Insider (Stevie Nicks background vocals) Walls (Circus) (Lindsey Buckingham background vocals) Climb that Hill (Lindsey Buckingham background vocals) ******* (Lindsey Buckingham background vocals) Beck Cover on She’s the One Stevie Nicks - Stop Dragging My Heart Around (Tom wrote and produced) Stevie Nicks - Outside the Rain (Tom produces) The Apartment Song (Demo on American Treasure) (Stevie Nicks background vocals)
