I mean, if you’re going to make a “bad songs” list that is half good songs, I’m not sure we’re ever going to all come to any concensus on this 51-year-old album... ;)

To me, it’s always sounded like the second line of the verse adds a dominant 7th to the V chord (honestly it may mainly happen in the vocal and not really played on the instruments? I’d need to listen closely and don’t want to right now.). That’s how I have played it, anyway (not that I play this song often).

Please refrain from political jabs and retorts. We've deleted a few posts already.

Some of you obviously....'need a fix 'cause your going down'.

    Sorry.

Awww dammit. I was 100% convinced everyone was gonna agree with that list, as self-evidently correct as it is.

Looks like we're gonna need a referendum to find a consensus afterall.

If there is one, it's certainly not unusual in any way for a V chord to have a seventh added to it in a simple I-IV-V context such as this. A V7 naturally "leads" back into the root.

If by “pop” they mean “jaunty” then yes I think it’s the jauntiest song ever.

And here I thought all along that "Lush Life" by Billy Strayhorn was the greatest pop song ever. Goes to show you what I know! I stand corrected!

No, not unusual at all, which was the joke I was attempting to make.

Also, I did listen to double check myself, and I don’t hear it in the instrumentation. However, I am pretty sure Paul is singing the dominant 7th on Molly/buys/Desmond in the second line of the verses, and I guess I’ve aggregated it into the overall chord being played there.
