One disc I have that is almost a sure bet to get them "up & runnin" is:

'Spaced Out! A Unique Collection Of Songs By Leonard Nemoy and William Shatner' MCA/Universal Music: UMD 80455

    From the tray card:

"A collection of curiously compelling recordings, brought together for the first time, summarising the talents of two artists who hold cult status in the worlds of both TV and Music.

This "stellar" collection of songs, 24 of them in all makes even me want to get up an leave and I live here.

I have that too, Khorn! I first heard it at Tower Records (North York). The staff were laughing their heads off and the customers all left. Shortly afterwards, Towers left Canada. Coincidence? Hmmmm.....

There is a CD called Party Killers. It has "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace, "You're Having My Baby" by Paul Anka (maybe???). I don't think it's worth full retail price so I've not picked it up yet....

Old Donny Osmond may fit the bill. But I don't have any.... so I'm not really sure.

CDs like this are useful for unwanted guests!

Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music is of course useful to drive guests, pests and sanity out the door.

As a less heavy-handed approach, use any Zapple album. "Life with the lions" is a sure bet.

And if you can't risk being discovered in your true intentions, use a hissy, crackly, battered Lp of some good soft music. Lots of people are now used to "noiseless" CDs and they can't stand Lp noise anymore.

If someone started playing an Ono record, I would seriously think the host would want me OUT.

Depends on the age range of the guests.

Baby Boomers are sure to be turned off by cheesy 70s music (Captain & Tenille, Starland Vocal Band, Barry Manilow). Generation X & Y, on the other hand, will probably start singing along in retro enjoyment and dig in for the night!

Try Michael Bolton or Celine Dion Generation X.

    Khorn,

I have the Shatner/Nimoy "Spaced Out" as well! That is a good one!
I guess as noted on this thread, it would really depend on the age of the unwanted guests! Are you targeting any particular age group, or just in general?

There is also a CD that has highlights from the "Annoying Music Show".
They have tracks like Mrs. Robinson performed by the US Navy Steel Drum Band! That may prove best for your purpose! Amazon sells that one (and the Annoying Music Show Holiday CD too). And, of course, try the "Golden Throats" series of discs!

    John Coltrane

As a jazz listener, I can guarantee you that ten minutes of John Coltrane's 4-CD LIVE IN JAPAN will drive all unwanted guests, rodents, and parasites out of the house.

The amusing thing about the concerts is the stereotypical polite applause at the end of each "song."

I know it's the musical equivalent of abstract expressionism; I know I should respect such uncompromised artistry, unfettered by a hint of commercialism. But, Lord, don't make me listen to it.

I am a boomer. Most boomers I know lovw hearing the artists you mentioned. When I was in high school, Barry Manilow was cool with everyone.

Not to offend any country fans here, but most boomers I know will go into a rage if you try to play country music of ANY stripe aorund them.

I also know many of you can't relate to this but the best way to get rid of black folks is to play rock music. Ask any DJ.

Michael Bolton or Celine Dion will definitely make some boomers exit...Bolton makes me wanna bolt!...I'm outta here.

Hmmm, this gives me good ammunition in my ongoing argument with some of my boomer-age co-workers. I am a Generation X'er and love pretty much all 70s music.

My older co-workers, however, have given me endless grief about some of my 70s faves: Carpenters, Barry Manilow, Captain & Tenille, Osmonds, etc. They tend exclusively toward Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin...

Good to know not all boomers are such music snobs!

    Roscoe,

I think it depends on whether your're talking about older boomers or younger boomers. The baby boomers are such a large, diverse generation that you could divide them up into two catagories. Yhe older ones who did their time in the 60s, and the younger ones, like me, who did our time in the 70s. We younger ones are the ones who listened more to Barry Manilow, Captain & Tennille, Carpenters, Osmonds, Jackson 5 and Partridge Family because these artists were all part of what was popular in the 70s. This wa at the time when the older boomers were dealing with Viet Nam, raising families, and the other things.

Well, a lot also depends on the peer pressure of the group in question.

I call this kind of music "lease-breaker" music, and I don't think that the '70s fluff "hitmakers" fit the bill. Irritating, yes. Room-clearing no. And, lease-breaking, definitely no. How about these two:

Temple City Kazoo Orchestra (EP) - "Some Kazoos" (Rhino Records)

    This EP contains the following:

    2001 Sprach Kazoostra
    Stayin' Alive [Bee Gees]
    Miss You [Stones]
    Whole Lotta Love [Zep]

Naked City (EP) - Torture Garden (Label N/A)

Short, numerous cuts, too many to list.

Both of these should clear a room within 10 minutes and break a lease within 2 days.

I know that nobody here will believe this, but the one thing I have that NOBODY seems to like is CAPTAIN BEEFHEART.

    It seems to move everybody.

    I don't understand.

I guess I wouldn't want anybody to drop by if The Beach Boy's "HERE COMES THE NIGHT " (Disco version) suddenly came up on my stereo. Not now, not even back in the early eighties.
