The Tomcats were an English group who spent time in Spain in the mid-60s, recorded Spanish-language beat 45s, and included Tom Newman in their line-up - the future producer of Tubular Bells, also frontman of the band Wire.
The frontman of Wire was Colin Newman, a different guy. Tom Newman (musician) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia » Colin Newman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia »
This is usually my go-to video in these sorts of threads. One can only imagine what kind of uproar this clip must have caused amongst the decent citizenry of Los Angeles when it originally aired on Shivaree back in 1965-- moms and dads everywhere screaming at their TV sets and telling their children to turn that garbage off immediately. It's particularly unfathomable to me that during an era where the Stones were said to have the longest hair and the wildest sound that such a band could have possibly existed, but yet here they are. A case could even be made (by me at least) that this was simultaneously the birth of punk rock and heavy metal. Anyway... Meet The Preachers.
isn't one of them supposed to be Marc Feld ? they look more like a version of the Jam containing a young Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher or maybe Johnny Marr & Clem Burke than a proto rex, seriously Mod
These guys are such mediocre players I'm surprised they were even allowed on TV. The lead singer shows some promise though -- perhaps if she tried mellower country-rock...
Not obscure these days, but very little footage exists of the original line-up. Dig Johnny Echols' double-neck guitar.
