now we're cooking with gas - bob hope if at first you don't succeed, keep sucking until you do succeed - curly howard
Judge: "Do you swear..." Curly: "No, but I know all the words." Hey, porcupine... Soitenly (Curly saying 'certainly')... Look at the grouse!... Many a 3 Stooge phrase get quoted around here (along with a large dollop of Bugs Bunny).
there are no crazy people, doctor. We're all just on vacation. I heard Dj Jonathan Brandmeier play this clip of Jack Palance, and it cracked me up. I learned many years later that it was from some 1982 low budget horror flick called alone in the dark.
"The deuce, you say!" - Peter Weller in Buckaroo Banzai (1984) "Laugh while you can, monkey boy!" - John Lithgow, same film "They took my thumb, Chah-lee!" - fantastic overacting from Eric Roberts in The Pope Of Greenwich Village (1984) "Well ... if it isn't Amy Archer. Prizelitzer Puliter." - Tim Robbins in The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) "Put. That coffee. Down. Coffee's for closers only." - Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Chevy Chase Fletch "its all ball bearings these day". - as he is imitating some sort of mechanic. Don't know why but it is a quote we pull out from time to time.
Maybe not that obscure but always remember it from Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Candy & Steve Martin cuddling up together ! “Where’s your other hand?” “Between two pillows.” “THOSE AREN’T PILLOWS!”
"You know I'm allergic to gold, Shawn. I had to sit at the no gold table in elementary school..." - Gus, while examining if a fancy biscotti is dusted with gold Psych It doesn't make any sense, but I break it out whenever someone mentions obscure/dubious allergies, or gold, or anything, really.
What’s this? it’s your hand Buckaroo. TheAdventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension. We have a blind date with destiny and it looks like she’s ordered the lobster. -Mystery Men
'Its an electric briefcase, I have to charge it.' and 'we have an injured rabbit, also'. from an early scene in Local Hero. It goes on... 'I'd be a good Gordon, Gordon.' 'He does this trick with sand' 'You only have one job?' 'Ahhh, the old country, eh Macintosh?' 'Its Macintyre, sir'
Ha! Nah, you make a good point, this is a great thread your started. Although I could say “frankly (Scarlett) I don’t give a damm”!
"Stone me, what a life", "You dirty old Man", "Ay thenk u", Oh, Crumbs", "Die alcoholische gerung, oder die gerungs alcohols......."
"I have a question... is this a god dam?" - Beavis "Cibo Matto can clog dance???" - Willow, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer "If I lived in a box, I'd be P.O.ed too." - Boner, from Growing Pains Does the Casey Kasem dead dog request rant count? Cause I reference that one a lot. "It's ponderous, man, f&^%in' ponderous!!!"
obscure can be an iffy term. for example, cooking with gas was a popular catchphrase back in the day but I got blank stares when I tried to use it. what a revolting development this is was a popular catchphrase for William Bendix who played the loveable, hapless chester riley. I got blank stares using that, too. that's why I am little gun shy about quoting older stuff.
