Good song let down by the poor vocals of Sonny T.

Its listenable, however I never liked the lyrics. Too problematic and the cursin very unnecessary for this song. Starts off nice then goes, "heres a MF I gotta blow away!" Meh. Prince just stop it. Doesn't make me want to sing along.

The Exodus album is surprisingly solid (if you're only considering the proper songs on it). Count The Days is a very nice semi-acoustic track. It isn't groundbreaking or a classic (to me, some disagree :) ) but it is a really nice song. In the end it sounds a bit too unremarkable to me to get an excellent grade but it's certainly a pleasant listen.

This is my standard-sized version of the album, and it's great:

    Side One:
GET WILD (substitute the soundtrack version for maximum effect)
    NEW POWER SOUL
    COUNT THE DAYS
    THE GOOD LIFE
    BIG FUN

    Side Two:
    RETURN OF THE BUMP SQUAD
    HALLUCINATION RAIN
    THE EXODUS HAS BEGUN

You might have to tidy up the ends of a couple of tracks to completely de-skit the thing.

"Count the Days" certainly is unusual, and a bit of a puzzle. While it doesn't hang together, it remains the most intriguing track on the album, partly because one wonders exactly what Prince thought he was doing here.

Today's song is "The Good Life", written by [IMG] Sonny T., Michael B., Mr. Hayes, and Tommy Barbarella; produced by [IMG]. Credits attributed to The New Power Generation.

The New Power Generation – The Good Life Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

"The Good Life" was recorded at Paisley Park in December 1994-January 1995. Remixes were done in Spring-Summer 1995.

Sonny T.: lead and backing vocals, bass guitar
[IMG]: backing vocals, all instruments, except:
    Tommy Barbarella: keyboards
    Mr. Hayes: keyboards
    Michael B.: drums

" The Good Life" was released as a single, in both edited and remixed forms, and plenty of them. Although the album was not released there, The Good Life was released in North America as well as the UK/Europe. In the UK it charted initially at #29 on the pop charts; a re-release in 1997 saw it reach #15 making this The New Power Generation's highest charting single.

I quite like this, until we get to rap, for which I have to deduct half a mark, so 3/5.

I wonder if all of these tracks exist with a Prince lead vocal?

"Count The Days" is one of the only tracks from this project I like. But I like this one a lot. Great vocal, great guitar.

The Good Life is quite ... well, good.
The 90s house keyboards and the rap suck but it's very, very catchy.

The Good Life - the strong (and earworm catchy) chorus hook keeps this one flowing nicely... and I like the extended portion at the end on the album version. Some nice rhythm guitar and bass. It was a surprise when this was a hit here in the UK, the second time around and bizarrely in one of the sped up house formats which got lots of radio play.

I presume we are going to discuss the Big City Mix separately as that is completely different - essentially a laid back rap by Prince over the looped beat.

The US 12" is notable for having a short non-album track b-side called 'Free The Music', which subsequently turned up on the Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) - which is another one of those 'advert' tracks in a similar vein to '2 Whomever It May Concern'. Took me years to track it down and when I did I played it once. The joys of collecting!

Oh wow, "Supercute" from The Chocolate Invasion is a rewrite of this song, isn't it? took me a minute to realise where I'd heard it before.

First saw this on the Love 4 One Another VH1 show. I thought it was a decent track with a catchy chorus.
