"Here" is better than the previous song. It's a good song but dangerously close to "adult contemporary" ("The Arms of Orion"). It stays just on the tolerable side of that line. 3.5/5
Here I like Prince's vocals and the acoustic guitar. This is a good song! Here is nothing spectacular or exciting (unlike the songs with an acoustic vibe on The Truth), just a breath of fresh air showing that Prince is an amazing singer. It might be a bit too poppy and save, but within the context of this album it's the positive surprise of this album. Again, the vinyl mastering is better than the streaming/cd version... This is a minor 4 out of 5.
Here First song I really like on this album. Never noticed it before, as it is buried between a whole lot of mediocrity. I've said it before, but this is one of the reasons I love this thread: (re)discovering great music.
Here... Another enjoyable song and this Album doesn't seem as bad as some have made it out to be. This was very light-hearted and almost sounds like something else, but I can't put my finger on it at the moment. 3/5
Here This is a first listen for me. Very 80s sounding, which I like, but kind of cheesy. I guess that makes it a 3/5.
Today's song is "Valentina", written and produced by Prince. Prince – Valentina Lyrics | Genius Lyrics Recorded between September 2008 and January 2009 at either Paisley Park or 77 Beverly Park Ln. The song is dedicated to Mexican/American actress Salma Hayek (I think her daughter's name is Valentina??) and also mentions Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. Line Up: Prince: all vocals and instruments
Here - Decent ditty that is listenable. I like the lyrics. Donny Hathaway's "Song For You" ain't the same without you Here Valentina - 4/5 This is the horned up Prince that I feel in love with. Reminiscent of Cindy C.'s lyrics longing for a superstar not so blindly. I like the timbales that come in on the last half. This song would have fit on 3121 as well. All worn out Late night feedings (Late night) Rock and roll meeting Tell your mama she should give me a call [Bridge] Curvier than a fender Stratocaster guitar Reality bender: from no green card to superstar Broken up slang even when The king of Hollywood ain't that tall Sho' as Betty's ugly, your mama's bigger than 'em all Hear me, y'all (Hey, Valentina) (Hey, Valentina)
Valentina Hey, Valentina, tell your mama She should give me a call When she get tired of running After you down the hall And she's all worn out From those late night feedings And she ready for another Rock and roll meeting The best Prince song in a long time. Signature nasty lyrics but also a great hypnotic groove and great guitars. An easy 5/5
Valentina. Same here : Didn’t like it at the time. Love it now. Cindy C, 3121 vibe, it’s been said… 4/5
"Valentina" is one of the better songs on the album. Lyrically, it certainly has that Prince "weirdness" that I usually enjoy. Nice jam. 4/5
Valentina I don't like Valentina. It's kinda bland and boring. Certainly not up to Prince's high standards... I'm not too fond of the lyrics either. Selma deserves a better song. Prince's singing around 2 minutes really annoys me. The Santana-ish guitar solo right after that is nice though. This is a 2 out of 5.
What an odd number. Love the spare synth work - takes us back to 1999 - but then we get a Santana-esque guitar freakout. Odd combo. Not sure if it works, but it's not bad, either. Runs out of gas before it depletes its 4 minute runtime. I feel like it's a 3/5 but could easily be a 4/5 with a little tweak. Again, he just wasn't spending enough time on these things.
Valentina... Hey Valentina! Another enjoyable tune. Again a winner from this Album. I never knew this was about Selma Hayek...Always loved her! 3.5/5
