Thanks, but I've had it with this player. It's in its box awaiting exchange or a future life as an expensive doorstop!

Video it so there is no attempt to say we tried but we see no fault.

On a product that is subject to a warranty claim of the type I would not risk doing anything that if something goes wrong could leave a mark on the surface and add chances for an argument with the dealer.

It's safely in its box in a wardrobe so I don't have as much of an urge to kick it

Agreed, although I don’t think a small square of tape is going to hurt the finish of the player.

For anyone still following this saga; after I sent the dealer the email from Rotel USA about the sensitivity of the remote sensor of the CD player to environmental factors they have agreed to replace it with a NAD player (a C546BEE). I'll be using it as a transport as my amp has a nice DAC.

Tune in next time (when the NAD arrives) for the next exciting episode ;)

May be you had too much excitement already and need a boring time with an always working unit and no surprises.
    Good luck with the NAD.

I had this problem not too long ago
Setting up my headphone system next to the bed (CD-Player feeds Headphone amp) the CDP
did erratic stops and even started on his own.
This was a Musical Fidelity CDT, it doesn’t even have a remote control
It never gave me any problem before.

Reason was that I had put the Schiit Magni on the CDP above the electronics, the Control
IC must have gotten some current from above sometimes

It never had any problems afterwards

That part has been a learning experience - I hadn't realized electronic equipment could be so sensitive. The Rotel tech said they had cases of CD players being affected by neon signs outside stores, plasma TVs inside stores etc.

    Hopefully the saga is over.

The NAD 546BEE arrived two weeks ago and has been performing flawlessly. Solid unit, and has even played a few scratched CDs that were in my junk pile :agree:

Sounds like a significant design flaw.

Definitely - I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on it around the net given that the Rotel techs knew about it. It's the reason the store agreed to replace the player as it's not 'fit for purpose' under local consumer law.

I have bought CD11 yesterday. It's brand new. The problem is it cannot not play any CD and displays NO DISC. Do I need to set up anything before the first use?

The one I had worked fine out of the box.

    Until it didn't ...
