A more "recent" photo...trying to change things up!

 

All lovely. Not seen the second one down before.

 

I just watched Xanadu for the first time in about 35 years.
It was totally different to what I remembered. But still silly as hell.
But I appreciate the musical soundtrack much more now. And Gene Kelly's performance.
I had a few "That's the guy from that other movie" moments too. Michael Beck is the main guy in The Warriors.
He was good in The Warriors but really hammed it up in Xanadu. The worst movie performance I have ever seen.

 

He paid a price for his 'hammy' performance. Xanadu destroyed his career.

 

Xanadu didn't suit him at all.

 

It must have seemed like a good career move then. A lavish Hollywood musical after the acclaimed, but low-budget The Warriors.. He didn't have any charisma in the role and the fact that he didn't sing or dance should have tipped him off that it was a bad idea.

 

I imagine the attraction to the project was in some small way to meeting and working with Olivia. Pity they had NO chemistry. (which is one of the film's many issues).

 

I don't think a singing and dancing Michael Beck would have saved Xanadu. But I get your point.

 

I did read once that Beck was favourite because he looked 'a bit' like Andy Gibb.

Also read that Olivia wanted Mel Gibson for the role...

 

No, it was doomed as soon as they opened the script at page one.

Yes, it's Frampton. They hosted some awards show just after Grease finished shooting. If you look , you can see her fringe is still short from when she played Sandy.

You may have been right with the Sears quip. Olivia did some modelling in 1979 just before she filmed Xanadu. Can't remember who or what she did it for, though...

 

Not to be mean to her...but looking at some of the offerings she wore from Koala Blue,it's no wonder it didn't last. I know some 80's fashion was ghastly...but even she was pushing the limit.

 

I don't think that pic was from the 70's...more like 80's in that pic. I think I know what you are referring to though, although I'm pretty sure the 79 photo shoot wasn't Sears.Hmmm...

 

I've been watching a ton of old Dr Who the last week on BBC and seeing these pictures of Livvy makes me realize what a lovely companion she would have made for the show.
