I have always wondered how the hell that ever happened...the Swedes and Norwegians must be very open-minded when it comes to music. By all rights a song like "Bobby Brown" never should have gotten any airplay at all (or hardly anything else on Sheik Yerbouti, for that matter). Frank probably had a good chuckle over "Bobby"'s overseas success as well:laugh:

Rick Derringer's Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo always has me listening to see if it's a radio edit or not (usually not)

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

That's probably because no one has reissued the 45 version in digital form.

I always want to see more stations take advantage of the "safe harbor" rules that the FCC put in place to allow "indecent" (but not "obscene") content on the airwaves from 10pm to 6am, when it was highly unlikely children would be listening. Most people don't even seem to know about this, and those with decision making powers in radio or TV don't want to take the risk, even at late hours. I think some college and public radio stations with eclectic programming take this into account, though.

Interestingly, I don't remember "Jeremy" being censored at all here in Florida when it was a new song. Not sure what passes on the rock stations today, as I can count on one hand the times I listened to over-the-air radio in my car in 2016.

When you hear the word "baby" in music, it is slang for "woman", "a "sweeetheart", if you will. Unless you're talking about "baby-makin' music".

So what's the consensus for 2016? I don't listen to iHeart Radio so I honestly have no clue.

Well, more often than not the word "love" in popular music implies the process by which babies are made rather than tender affection so I guess one could call that "baby-makin' music"... :agree:

Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean. John was either "one hell of a man" or "a big, big man" depending on which version. (Of course it doesn't get played at all anymore) :)

Has anyone ever heard censored versions of ZZ Top's "Legs" or Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It" at any time?

the line after that. there are claims online (and in books) that the lyric in the Derringer version is misheard as a feline euphemism for lady parts. "c'mon little *****, gonna do it to you"

This was written by Johnny Winter and runs like a blues song, he is singing about a "hoochie" after all.

Unfortunately Johnny deliberately steps away from the words in this version

skip to 2:30, he says the P-word. I don't have the LP version but I know I've heard it on the radio that way.
