One Film Per Year, Any Year!!!!

Yes...

The cast is a bunch of unknowns , which to me just adds to the independent tone of LS...

Its low budget special effects just adds to its eerie charm...

UTS also has a depth & feel not unlike Roegs The Man Who Fell To Earth & a few other 70s & early 80s sci-fi movies...

LS lacks the depth & star quality of these Hollywood movies but what it lacks in depth & star quality it more than makes up for in the arena of weird & absurd...

NYC models , smack , aliens & shards of broken glass...

How someone ever thought to make a movie out of those 4 things is beyond me...

But they did and in the process created one of the most bizarre films I have ever viewed...

The only other movie I could compare to is Lynchs Eraserhead & probably Robert Downey , Srs 1972 psychedelic Western "Greasers Palace"

 

Manhattan is only 96 mins time wise. Apocalypse Now there exists a 289 minutes version /work print. Agree both stellar.

This forum was buzzin about movie lists 5/1o years ago. Your lucky if you get a single film mentioned now. Folk lead busy lives( I know ).

 

Overlap ? Yes I considered 1950,51.

It's kinda /sad /ironic my 2000's list looks all gung ho action stuff.

1962? Love the organ / soundtrack ..have to get the DVD again!!!!
1956? Great French film.

 

I watched All About Eve ( nice Steelbook) fairly recently and of course excellent. Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard just had the edge( this time).

 

So did I (love The African Queen but arbitrarily based my final decision on having already listed movies featuring Bogart and Hepburn, plus Billy Wilder was represented by Some Like It Hot). Also, I just fixed the dates for those years (certainly they weren't 1050 and 1051...LOL!! ).

Guess I'm gonna have to leave it to presumably younger people than myself to flesh out the 21st century, though I agree with you that there have been some very fine films made in the last 30 years. Please do carry on!
