I have posted this song to bemusement several times. There's a beautiful alternative take on an esoteric CD released a while (eight years?) ago. Just Wyatt singing.

 

If singles are allowed, “You got a lotta nerve / to say you are my friend / when I was down / you just stood there grinning” is pretty fantastic.

I love how the first three Elvis Costello albums open with memorable a capella lines. I forget where I read it, but someone pointed out that it makes it seem as if EC has so much to say that he can't wait for the band to kick in before he starts singing.

I'm still not sure exactly what Brett Anderson is singing at the start of So Young (it sounds something like "She can...start...to walk out...when she wants"), but I'll never forget hearing the first Suede album for the first time, and being knocked out by the way he seemed to be using his voice as just another instrument in the band, intentionally making the words indecipherable (c.f. Elizabeth Fraser).
