That's a pretty amazing likeness. It'll be interesting to see how she acts the part.

Is having Renee sing a result of perhaps not having the rights to use Garland's original recordings?
In my opinion, Judy Garland has one of the best voices of the last 100 years for modern music/pop music/musicals/or whatever you want to call it. Even if they could get someone with an outstanding voice, why wouldn't they use Garland's original recordings if they could?

I think I may pass on this film, but I'll withhold final judgement until it is out and reviewed. I always have all those Judy Garland films to watch instead.

    "Hey, let's do a show!"

This is one of those situations where they're damned either way "She can't sing like Judy!" versus "She's just lip-syncing!"

All entertainment biopics must die. Except for a good one...about Hank Williams....one day.....

    A brilliant statement.

"Except for a good one"? There have been good ones.
"...about Hank Williams...one day" Does this mean you hate all biopics unless the subject is Hank Williams? That's rather limiting.

Oh Great! Here we go again. So it focuses on the last year of her life?
Why not do a complete story of her whole life instead of the deterioration.
While we are at it, let's do an Elvis 1977-78 drama documentary
and show how awful Elvis was and his rotten habits etc.
The better film would be Elvis 55 - 68 comeback!.....
    I digress.
This is a pathetic excuse to dis-honour a legendary performer.
I stand with Liza on this, it's a bullcrap representation and not appropriate.
All these producers and directors should take a leaf out of the 'Ray' film and do it properly.

Me too. Also waiting for "Janis" with Michelle Williams. That should be an interesting transformation.

If it lives up to the trailer it could be a tour de force for Zellweger.

Wow! I'm impressed. I hope this turns a new generation of people on to Judy's music.

Judy's story is the kind of thing that makes for a great biopic- lots of drama and high highs and low lows and the classic tragic ending that comets her legacy.

I didn't pay much attention to her myself until the '80's. Found a copy of Carnegie Hall in a thrift store, and it blew me away! If it could do it then...

The good news is that even if the movie sucks, the soundtrack is bound to be pretty good. :)

I mentioned this on another forum, but the 2001 three hour mini series "Judy Garland: Me And My
Shadows" starring Judy Davis sets a pretty high standard. Davis received the Emmy for best
actress for it, and Tammy Blanchard, who played the younger Judy, was nominated for best
supporting actress. I've always thought it was a remarkable film/performance, but I'll wait
and see if Renee can pull it off. But Judy Davis' performance will be hard to beat.
