Never liked them. To me, they sound like boy bands playing guitars and trying to be "edgy" with annoying humour. For something pop-punk like, I'd stick with The Ramones and The Undertones.
From the list above, Blink-182 is my favorite. Like their music. And they're not very well known in my country. Green Day is a good band. However I'm a bit tired of their popular songs. Never listen enough Paramore's material to comment. And MCR.. I never consider them as pop punk, they're pretty cool, though.
I'm not a fan in general but there are some bands I like. My Chemical Romance was fantastic at their peak and I like a lot of Paramore too. I like a few Green Day, Panic! at the Disco, and Fall Out Boy songs as well. I guess I'm more into the emo side of pop punk because I tend to really hate stuff like Blink 182 and Avril Lavigne.
the word pop punk to late 70's artists is certainly a retrospective thing. many critics completely ignore the influence of 80's punk into the music world (many times this influence is somewhat bad, like uk 82). but in some ways it ended up shaping the meaning of the word punk, right? and the image itself. type punk in google images and you'll see something that is completely 80's and not 70's.
Grit is overrated. Not an endearing musical quality and exists purely to appeal to juveniles who think it’s cool.
I was just listening to some All-American Rejects, fun stuff. Around that time of American Pie movies and music featured in them The Last Song
I generally dislike most of this... although I do like some of Green Day's stuff. The last LP lost me.
I've listened to more than enough pop punk live or on record to know most of it bores the **** out of me.
not really the same, but if I remember correctly TRL had them compete, something like Backstreet Boys vs Blink 182 who will be number one, since both were popular at that time
Most of my favs either started or got popular in the 90s: Nofx Offspring Rancid Green Day Lagwagon Millencolin Pennywise MXPX Pulley Bouncing Souls Dropkick Murphys
I’m fascinated by Lagwagon’s Double Plaidinum LP. It’s their only record with Ken Stringfellow in the band and the arrangements are pretty unusual for them. Some slower/grittier songs too. I love that album
I picked up a Menzingers t-shirt at one of their gigs that featured two people-- um, how should I say this-- projectile vomiting into one anothers' mouths. Never owned a t-shirt before or since that legit triggered people like that one did.
Hit and miss genre.......never much liked Greenday or late 90s punk pop....Love Nirvana/Blondie and many others who touched on it. I like something to think about, or scathing commentary generally speaking.....Generally don't like happy azz punk
