CEDIA is finally here, and OPPO Digital showed off two new players, the BDP-103 and BDP-105.

Here is is a report with additional info and a few pictures, from the guys at Secrets of Home Theater:

The link above does a pretty good job describing the differences between the two, and some of the new features vs. the 93/95. The '95 will still be available for a while, and if you like to have component video/S-video/composite outputs, I recommend grabbing one now. The new 103/105 models will not output analog video at all for DVD/Blu-ray sources, per BD Alliance restrictions.

It has coax, optical and USB inputs and can be used as an external dac.

That's for the BDP-105 model only, the BDP-103 accepts digital audio/video via a front-panel HDMI input, and can output over its normal outputs.

New or Enhanced BDP-103/105 Shared Features:
    • Latest generation QDEO which supports 4K upscaling
    • 2x2 HDMI. Two HDMI inputs; Two HDMI outputs.
    • The Front HDMI input supports HML (High-Definition Mobile Link) which allows some of the newer smartphones to be connected direct to the player and transmits the phones screen to the television. This also allows for ROKU Stick support.
    • Newest Netflix interface which supports 1080p video, multi-channel audio, subtitle and alternative language selection, and Family Interface
    • Gracenote for looking up media information such as album art, artist, album, and track information for your CD, SACD, and user generated media
    • Backlit Eject buttons. No more thumbing around in the dark.
    • No more analog video. There is a "DIAG" port, but this is to only see the OPPO UI when there is no media playback. So for those of you who use a small monitor for media playback, you will need to upgrade to a DVI/HDMI capable display.

    New BDP-105 Only Features:
    • Fanless (unlike the BDP-95)
    • Headphone Amplifier
    • Optical, Digital Coaxial and asynchronous USB DAC
    • Properly oriented XLR outputs

Pricing and Release Dates are not confirmed at this time.

Damn you Oppo ;). Very tempted by the 105 if it can be used as a standalone DAC. That's the one feature that I wish my 95 had.

I wish that Oppo would give an estimated delivery time frame. I certainly don't want their estimate fall into the vaporware category but....

This is great! Glad I waited before pulling the trigger on the 95.

The players aren't vaporware, I have one of them in my house right now ;)

The '95 is still really awesome, and like I said has a critical feature for some: analog video outputs.

No Analog video? I'll just stick with saving for the 93.

  13. I might take a closer look at the 105.

Same as on the previous players...connect to your LAN/internet for streaming services (Netflix, Pandora, etc), BD-LIVE content, and supported files on your LAN, a la DLNA streaming.

"Boo! Hiss!" to the BD Alliance. One of the reasons I bought the BDP 93 was because of the warning that Oppo's next generation players would no longer have component video outputs.

There has been no official announcement on pricing.

The BPD-105, in particular, has several physical improvements and technological capabilities over its predecessor, so it is definitely premature to assume it will be the same price as the BDP-95.

    Sam,

How does the 105 sound? Is it an improvement over the 95?

Does anybody have any idea what that input/output labeled "diag" is for?

No reviews, until players are officially released.

It is short for Diagnostic. It is basically composite video that displays the Setup menu, so you can troubleshoot if there is a problem with your HDMI connection.

The nice thing about the OPPOs, they retain their resale value well. You can even get MSRP, for used, if you time it right. The nice thing about the '95, it still has analog video, and ignores Cinavia copy protection. Desirable things, for many people.
