At $799, with XLR outputs and ESS pro chip, only thing missing from the Sonica is a SACD transport .

It is worth the $800 price in my estimation. The main drawback is the lack of of gapless play. For those who find that an issue, look elsewhere. Sound quality is superb in my opinion. Not many DACs are using the 9038 chip and those that are are more expensive.

Pony up for the UDP-205 if you need the SACD transport.

But you lose Spotify and Tidal support, and costs another $500 (almost enough for another Sonica DAC).

Took the plunge. They had a refurb available for $599 so I grabbed it. Same 2-Year Parts/Labor Warranty as new, and saved $200 so why not?

Where are the refurbs on the Oppo site? I've never seen any whenever I check. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

Go to the ‘Store’: OPPO Digital Products

Go to Page 3. If available, the refurbed $599 Sonica is at the bottom of the page.
